I went to Japan a few years ago, and I bought toe socks. They felt like and were made from cotton just like regular socks you would buy here in the states - not that thick, really long, acrylic blend kind of toe socks you find in Wal-Mart. They were ankle socks with cute decorations on them, but I'm not particular about designs. I love them! Please help!

i bought several nylon ankle socks, but the sales woman said they are not breathable, and cotton socks are? but why is nylon so expensive ? i got 2 pairs for 9.99 and 2 cotton for 4.99? both are black socks and pattern on the toes and heels. reason i asking is because my daughter is such a fashionable girl and even the socks have to be good quality and nice looking ty.

No matter what I do (thick socks, reinforced toes, cotton nylon vs. cotton only, etc) my steel toed safety shoes wear a hole in my socks on BOTH feet in the big toe area. I've even tried tennis shoe style steel toed shoes (to see if shoe style/type made a difference) and the same thing happens. Is it something you just live with (like dropping toast and having it land butter side down on the floor) or is there a solution? And, no, I do not have long toenails (gross) - I keep them short and maintained. I've talked with co-workers and they have the same problem but didn't think anyone else did so lived with it in silence. This is getting expensive in that it occurs rather fast and so you really get no life out of the socks before they need repair; or need to be pitched. Until I was required to wear them I didn't know there could be a problem with safety boots/shoes besides additional weight.
Have you tried doubling up on the socks?
Also, hate to say it, but go to the dollar store to buy your socks. At least it will be cheaper.

Injinji Toe Socks
As I was exploring the radical new design of Vibram’s FiveFinger toe shoes, I stumbled across injinji and the tetrasok which mimmicks the foot-surrounding design but still works with my existing shoes (as well as my FiveFingers). I decided to buy a pair and and give them the complete tour in my work dress shoes, biking shoes, hiking boots and casual skate shoes. What I learned is that toe socks are a bit tricky to get on and off, they drastically change the way shoes feel and perform and they cool my feet off much better than a traditional sock. They don’t however, change the way I walk like FiveFingers do.
I tried the Performance model of injinji socks first which are made with CoolMax and are designed to wick away moisture and help with odor control. These socks are recommended for running, walking, cycling, and general cross training. In terms of thickness they are medium with three ply fabric, and can work well with Vibram’s FiveFinger toe shoes. Alternatively, injinji makes an even thinner “Liner” model of toe socks that would probably be best for the FiveFingers because they’re only two ply. Moving up to the thicker injinji socks, the Outdoor model is made of marino wool (known for being the finest and softest kind of wool) which are great for warm or cold environments as they insulate very well. The Outdoor socks aren’t as good at wicking or drying out but offer a bit more padding. Wool wicks moisture to a middle layer instead of completely wicking it away to the exterior of the fabric, this means they don’t completely dry out as quickly as the Performance or Liner models.
