Light Cotton Socks

I have bought me nylon quick dry underwear, but I was wondering about the same thing for socks?? I do not know what is the good kind to get and that are high quality, but affordable. I can not spend too much money. I will be mostly needing for day hike in Florida. Something easy to wear, breathable, light weight, does not smell, anti-microbacteria, etc... if there are such thing?

+1 on the wool socks and separate liners.

The liners keep your feet dry by wicking moisture to the outer sock, where it evaporates. Terramar Thermasilk at about $10/pair are excellent, Wigwam polyester/nylon are good at around $8/pair. I would avoid the polypropylene liners because they do tend to smell.

The wool outer sock provides cushioning. I prefer a thick outer sock, but mid-weight with some extra padding at the hot spots (heel and inner toe areas) are good, too. Smartwool and Wigwam have hiker comfort socks for around $12/pair.

I have one pair of socks that I stole (from my dad- who doesn't remember where he got them) that are the perfect pair. They are thin, soft, black, the bottom is padded, they don't come up high (so they don't bother my ankle) and they were inexpensive (I told you I got them from my dad, that is how I know they were inexpensive).
I can't find anything like them. It is driving me nuts. Probably a cotton spandex blend.... grrr...

Try checking out the socks in the mens department at Macy's or Nordstrom or even Ross or Marshalls.
P.S...I steal socks from my Dad too!!

Anyone know a good website to buy mesh hockey socks? Grew up and place ice hockey in the northeast. Now I am in Texas and want to start playing again... only problem is i lost my old socks. There is a lack of hockey equipment stores in Texas and all i can find are heavy cotton/knit socks... Just want the light weight mesh type hockey socks i have lost!

I used to wear cotton socks, and i run cross country, and i ended up getting blisters, so i bought some socks. I have two kinds of socks, same brand. Both of them say they have "moisture control" but one of them says "pill resistant" and the other says "cushioned". well here's what they are made out of:
"pill resistant" - 84% polyester, 15% stretch nylon, 1% spandex (these ones feel light weight and thin)
"cushioned" - 85% acrylic, 14% stretch nylon, 1% spandex (these ones are thicker)

well i was wondering which one is better for moisture wicking and preventing blisters. they're not really "running" socks, they're like for sports in general. are these good enough or should i buy those socks with cool max and all that stuff? (if you were to pick from the two i have tho tell me which).

If you can use smart-wool socks that would be best. Check the sporting goods stores. They're pricey, though, but worth it. Also carry blister bandaids with you.

You should wear the thick ones. Although it's less pleasant in the summer because your feet get hotter, it will help not get as many blisters.
