My vintage black executive Italian cotton socks are very soft and comfortable but they don't come and up to my knees and don't have ...

I am looking for really thick cotton socks. Like 2-3 times the regular thickness and they need to be cotton, elastic on top is fine, but not wool or polyester material in the foot. Any style or brand is fine. Whenever I go sock shopping they are all thin, or just have a little extra cushion on the sole with a thin top. Does anyone know where I can find a great thick sock? The brand, type, or what to look for?

I use thick socks too. I buy the white Columbia brand socks at Marshalls. If these are not thick enough for you, go to Sports Authority, Sports Chalet or Rei sporting goods and look for those really thick winter socks. They carry all kinds.

I came to know about this recently from a reputed Socks Manufacturer who has 20 years experience. He says Machine wash reduces the life of elastic of the Socks.

I'm sure he's right and it does - but I really, truly, envy anyone who actually has the time to handwash socks!!! It's that age old debate, time versus money, plus the eternal question of what constitutes quality of life.....

Yes, even cotton sock will have elastic so fold them at the top when your kid wears them

6 months ago I bought a new package of socks and when I wore them my skin would get red and itchy where the top of the sock (elastic part) touched my leg/ankle. It looks and feels like a sunburn. I found that when I wear only 100% cotton socks I don't get that irritation. I'd worn those types of socks my whole life so why did it start now?

Allergies can develop any time in life. You could have been allergic to the type of material the sock was made with, you could have had a reaction just to the elastic, the chemicals in the packaging, if you washed the socks before wearing them did you use a different detergent? Unfortunately you have to use process of elimination.
