Wear both. Wool socks next to your feet, and cotton on the outside. The cotton will absorb your sweat and the wool will keep your feet dry. This works especially well if your boots are made of a breathable material like Gore-tex.

I recently bought a pair of Rocky brand-Fort Hood 8" boots. They're great for the most part. Not to gross anyone out, but my only problem is that my feet get hot and sweaty in them. I've tried merino wool socks and plain cotton socks with only minimal relief as a result. I don't want to have to get another pair of boots, but it's real uncomfortable having your feet feel like they're in the Amazon. I don't have time to change socks in the middle of my shift and foot powders only work for about an hour.
Do any of you have any advice/first hand experience on socks that can my help my feet get cooler and drier? Any recommendations? Thanks.
And a message to all of the "trolls" on here:
We bust ours to save yours! Remember that.
I'd consider getting a lighter weight duty boot for the summer months. I had the same problem you do but with a pair of Rocky Eliminators. I switched to a pair of Altama lightweights and they have been great!

my girl friend wants me to wear thin black and white striped knee highs with my dr. marten boots. she said its not fair that only she wears those socks. I only sock i wear is thick cotton tube socks with my boots. I'm thinking those thin socks will create a stinky smell in my boots. Does anyone have any experience wearing thin socks with leather boots, and if so does it stink or smell?
???????????????????
I'm not sure what kind of socks those are but you can try some powder that they sell so your shoes won't smell. I am not sure of the powder's name but it's meant to keep your feet fresh and don't have that bad smell. can you send me a message please? I read more of your questions and I want to talk to you.

I wear cotton white socks usually the kind my husband wears. I always feel like other women are wearing something similar but the female version. I always saw my mom wearing my dad's and so that 's what I did.
I know what to wear with dress or formal wear but what about everyday, sneaker, boot wear?

I have cloth lined steel toe leather boots and wear cotton socks and my feet still get cold!
Buy yourself a new pair of wick socks. They move any moisture from your feet up the sock. There is another solution to your problem. Take a bread bag or any type of heavy plastic bag and put it over your sock, then put your foot inside your boot. This works very well to hold the heat inside your boot. Make sure your boot fits firm or you will tear a hole in the bag, when you walk.

Here are some basics to keep in mind when equipping Junior for winter:
• Base layers
For the layers that lie closest to the skin, including socks, avoid cotton; instead, choose merino wool or synthetics like polyester. Cotton traps moisture close to the skin, making it chilly.
How heavy to go on the layers depends on the activity and the child.
“Know whether your kids run hot or cold,” said Allison Graves, a supervisor at Bend's REI. If your child gets hot at night and kicks his covers off, he probably doesn't need the thickest base layer of clothing. But if she is often cold, she can wear a thick base layer, such as fleece pants and a long-sleeve T-shirt.
Boot Socks
Socks are important both for adults and kids, however, babies need them most. The best footwear for an infant up to their first birthday is natural woolen socks. There are a few things you need to remember while choosing your baby a pair of socks.
Infant socks should not restrict the feet, but be small enough not to be lost while lying or crawling. However the socks should not be too tight as they may harm either feet or blood circulation. It is said that those socks need to be about an inch longer than the foot.
Usually woolen sock are recommended for infants as wool keeps skin comfortable in any weather condition. In addition, woolen socks are the healthiest ones for your baby. Another material that is good for babies’ feet is natural cotton. These socks are lightweight and a great for warm seasons. Organic cotton is a natural fiber and prevents the chemicals from contacting babies’ skin. Both types of socks are easy to take care of. All you need is to handwash in mild detergent. These socks and special soaps may be bought either online or in a specialized baby shop.
