I have a 100% cotton skirt....?
Vintage 50s Mini Powder Pink Leaves Novelty Print Vintage 50s Cotton A Line Skirt Party Dress S/M

that I purchased, tore the tags off, threw them away...all before trying it on. I know..stupid!!
Anyways, its too big. How would I go about shrinking it down a size? Is it even possible?
Its very casual...has a drawstring waist
I am also worried about fading..its has a zip up hooded jacket that matches and it fits. I dont want that to shrink.
Its an A-line skirt...pulling it tight to fit with the drawstrings scrunches up the waist line and looks rediculous.

All I can suggest is washing it in hot water and then drying it at the hottest heat your dryer has.

If you have access to a sewing machine you could make it smaller by sewing one of the seams bigger.

LUKASTYLE Techno Cotton EZ A Line Skirt

LUKASTYLE Techno Cotton EZ A Line Skirt

Can you remember exactly what you were wearing when you first met your current partner? Even if it's ages ago.

I was wearing a pink cotton A line skirt, a white broderie anglaise top, white underwear, bare legs and some white low heel sandals. It was 18 years ago and we were both in our early twenties.

Yes I can! I was wearing dark blue bootleg jeans, blue denim wedge shoes, black vest top and a chiffon blouse. He was wearing jeans and a Ben Sherman shirt (which he still has but alas, no longer fits into!!) It was 1999. I was 26, he was 29 and we are now married

Outfit appropriate for meeting boyfriend's parents?

I'm having a casual summer dinner at my boyfriend's house for the first time. I am planning to wear a white cotton knee-length A-line skirt and a short-sleeved V-neck turquoise cotton top with brown sandal heels. Does that sound too casual? I want to look cute but not too dressed up.

like u said... be at ur best... look casual... its just a casual summer dinner... so its best to be urself.. wear something comfortable and not too shabby not too showy... i know u wan2 impress urself 2 his parents... and first impression last... and its not what u wear that impresses people... its how u accept them as they are... ur way of thinking... they way u react... so smile and always greet them politely... for sure, they'll accept u .......... good luck!!!

Also Im about 5ft 5...what length would be best to avoid making me look short, just under the knee or knee length?

Cheers guys!
Forgot to add, that I've not actually done this before!! LOL

Dont buy your fabric before your pattern! Your pattern will tell you how much fabric you require, also dressmaking fabrics come in 45 and 60" widths which affects how much you will need. Then there is the question are you going to cut it on the bias? (pin the pattern diagonally accross the fabric) The drape of fabric when cut this way this will give you, especially in an a line skirt a more swirly flowing effect. Find your pattern, try ebay? Then get your fabric If you are desperate to buy the fabric you saw try emailing the person selling the pattern and ask them how much and what width is required for a uk size 10? x

How do I brighten up a faded skirt...?

I have a yellow skirt made of 100% cotton with a lining made of 80% polyester and 20% cotton.
I've only worn it a couple times but it's totally faded and dull.
Now I'm not exactly what you would call a 'domestic goddess', so I was wondering if anyone out there could give me any info on how to make it bight again (if this can be done?) as I have no idea!
Thanks!
P.S. No sarcasm please :)

maybe try dying it with fabric dye. try to match the dye closest to the colour that it origionally was. or switch to a brightening detergent and see if that does the trick.

  • A-Line Shapes Are Always in Fashion

The A-line style is flattering as it sits snugly at the waist, caresses the hips and it is not too clingy ... come on admit it ladies sometimes it feels like this is the only shape that you want to wear! Not only this but it's a timeless style that is revered by top catwalk designers all the way to the high street. The A-line skirt was first made popular by Jacqueline Kennedy, who adopted the style in the 1960's due to its simplicity and elegance. So why do we love it so much? A-line styles are perfect for rounder women or when you're having a plump day. It's great if you have wider hips, as it does not reveal the parts of the body that are bigger, so fabulous for the pear shaped ladies. If you...
