Question about controlling / overbearing mothers?
baby halloween pumpkin hat crochet 2

How does one start to become a controlling mother?
By not letting any piece of cheese or a drop of coffee whilst pregnant, then feeding their infant organic and dressing the baby in organic fabric, progressing to teaching the baby to read so it gets a head start, enrolling the toddler to drama and art classes to make sure it is getting smart, pushing the child to after-school classes 5 days a week and enrolling him to summer classes, etc...
Does the motherly paranoia stops sometimes or once one gets the bug "the best for my child" it will stick to them forever?
Do you know that wrapping your child in cotton wool does not actually achieve much in the long term?
Ethel, I am not sh*****g you, you must have heard about unpasteurised cheese (barely available these days) but some women still live in fear they might eat some by accident and kill their unborn child straightaway!
Looks like I have hit a nerve... I don't resent but I feel sorry for those kids whose lives are regimented 24/7 by mothers who can't accept the fact they haven't bred a genius.

I am not really sure this is a question, more of a rant, but I do somewhat agree with you. My children do eat healthy, veggies, fruits, meats and grain with very little junk. So in that aspect I am controlling I guess.

I am not into the "baby can read" programs and pushing them into classes at an early age or after school or during the summer. My kids learned to read in Kindergarten and Pre School and got to enjoy their toddler years by playing and having their imaginations grow leaps and bounds. I think every parent wants what is best for their child, my personal opinion is that you only get to be a child for a small percentage of your life. Why push them to do things before they are ready or need to?
