Becos you talked of the mfg industry I thought you were asking about organic versus synthetic fibres.. but you compared organic Vs traditional cotton.. so I think that you are not thinking of the synthetic but about the "green" fibre produced without using the synthetic chemicals (fertilizers and pesticides) over the traditional production of lint with use of chemical inputs.. On this premise I try to address your question.. but your query lacks clarity any way..
Green produce or production of agrl goods (of direct consumption / use by humans, in particular) have become popular due to the adverse effects of certain toxic chemicals carried by the agrl products, like cotton, produced in the traditional way.. The child wears (nappies etc) used, caused alleged allergies traced to the toxic products in the fibres and the US was the first to go for Green produce on this premise.. which is now followed for the other crops also, in most (paritcularly affluent) countries.
Chlorinated hydro carbons, organo phosphorous pesticides etc used by farmers to control severe pests affecting the crops, are not completely disintegrated but retained in the economic parts harvested and used by us..
So raising of agrl crops using only the organic manures and pesticides (like neem products, bio fertilizers, bio control agents, etc) are gaining importance.. The yield would be lower than the traditionally raised crops but the "green produce" (here, green does not mean fresh, but as organically raised produce - free from any chemical / synthetic remnants) attract good prices from the affluent markets..
Though the intention to demand green or organic product is mainly from consumer interests, there is advantage from the producer angle also.. becos increasing use of chemical inputs - mainly to increase the yields or preserve the quality, free from pest damages - also spoil the cultivated lands and the ground water quality (pollution issues).
Experts however feel that a switch over to the organic products at large scale in the face of increasing demands for agrl products would result in substantial scarcity of the products and increased price regimes - affecting the poorer sections, etc
They feel that an optimal use of the chemical inputs in conjunction with organic manures and (botanic) pesticides etc would serve the purpose of maintaining the production levels and reducing pollutions, besides meeting the projected demands for the final produce, as well as serving the consumer interests of poorer sections..
You can find abundant literature on this topic in most of the popular agricultural journals and in the agrl sections of all popular libraries..
good luck

Please tell me what is the difference between cotton and organic cotton. some persons reffers to only organic cotton instead of cotton.! I am always confused. Answer and oblige please.!
Thanks,
Organic cotton has strict guidelines. The farmer that goes it must meet these guidelines before he can sell it as Organic.
They may include:
no pesticides, no herbacides, no reclaimed water for irigation, never mixed with non-organic.
Although cotton can be washed before turned into textiles, some of the residue can remain in the product. But remember, if it is organic the cotton can contain bugs or bug parts. There is no federal regulations against this. So take your pick. Cotton does attract bugs. And chemicals kill bugs.
need to know for textiles assignment :(
help?
XOXO
Growing cotton accounts for as much as 16 percent of global pesticide use. Of course all of that does not go to make yarn--it's used for T-shirts, sheets, bedding and countless other products.
Pesticide use is harmful to both the people who have to live and work around pesticides and the planet when pesticide runs off from where it was intended and contaminates nearby water.
Organic cotton is grown without the use of chemical pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers (there are natural ingredients that can be used for these purposes, such as pyrethrin, which comes from chrysanthemums). Emphasis is placed on the quality of the soil and things like crop rotation and supporting beneficial insects for pest control.
Organically grown cotton fibers have the same characteristics as conventionally grown cotton. The yarn is just as strong and durable as any other cotton yarn you could buy.
Many companies are selling organic cotton yarn, from Blue Sky Alpacas to Lion Brand. If your favorite brand of cotton doesn't come in organic yet, odds are it will soon.
Organic cotton yarns can be dyed, but another nice thing about many of the organic products on the market today is that they are left natural. Light brown, gray and green colors are most widely available, allowing you to make beautiful cotton garments that you can feel good about.

The Cleanest Line: Growing Organic Fibers
As a founding member of Organic Exchange (OE), a nonprofit dedicated to expanding the production and use of organically grown fibers, Patagonia recently attended their annual conference and board meeting in Seattle. At the meeting, OE members - which include companies like Nike, GAP, Nordstrom, REI, Walmart and Target - decided to broaden their traditional focus on organic cotton “to the emerging field of sustainable textiles, in order to better support both their needs in organic cotton and to help identify other sustainable textile solutions.”
Given the collective influence of OE members, which represent some 750 billion dollars in retail sales demand, and their ambitious goals (like increasing the amount of land used for farming organic fiber by 50 percent per year), this seemed like a significant change. I wondered if it reflected a greater willingness among businesses to take a more comprehensive look at their footprints, a frustration among businesses with existing solutions to their environmental problems, or something else. So I caught up with Jill Dumain, our Environmental Analysis Director, to find out what she thought.
