online shop for unique fishermen pants ,yoga pants, traveler pants cotton silk linen and organic hemp one size fits all.
I have 2 cotton/silk blend sweaters. The instructions say to dry clean or wash on gentle & lay flat to dry. I washed the first at home (gentle cycle, cold water, w/ Woolite) and laid it flat - when it dried it came out like cardboard! I took the 2nd one (and the one that I washed at home) to the dry cleaner (was an organic dry cleaner) and they are now both stiff and itchy. My previously soft and comfortable sweaters are now both itchy and uncomfortable. I've taken one of them to a regular dry cleaner in the past and it was fine - thought I'd try the environmentally friendly cleaners and the sweater is awful.
Can they be salvaged at this point? Was the organic cleaner just a bad dry cleaner and that's why my sweater was ruined, or do they use a different process that ruined it? How can I wash them at home and not ruin them?
These weren't overly expensive sweaters, maybe $40-$50, but I loved them and now they make my skin itch and they look weird!
You should NEVER have put it in a washing machine! (stiff & itchy). When it says "gentle"...it means "HAND WASH.".
"Woolite" is ok...but THINK of anything made from insects (Silkworm)...as your HAIR... & use SHAMPOO! Especially SILK. (it's made from the Silkworm).
Take your 'ruined' sweater, 'shampoo' them BY HAND....IN THE SINK, and then 'condition' it too (just like you would your hair)! Lay it flat on a towel to dry...and I think you'll 'SALVAGE' the sweater that's stiff and itchy will be softer than before. You may have ruined it in the washer...(you'll know better next time---it's just a sweater! as you said)..
but>>>
I doubt that it is "RUINED". It probably WAS the organic cleaner and your mishandling than made them stiff & itchy. Dry-cleaners can differ so much with their product, the solution (used too many times), & their method of drying. If the solution was dirty that could cause stiffness---and the bacteria left behind could make them itchy and not fresh.
ALWAYS ASK YOUR DRY-CLEANER HOW OFTEN THEY CHANGE THEIR CLEANING SOLUTION !!! If they don't say "daily"....take your garment and LEAVE. Don't bother to explain why you're leaving...if they can't figure it out---it's their bad! ...just leave!
TRY THE SHAMPOO.

And I want to stay away from chemical compounds as well. I want something equally good for the environment. Duvet covers and sheets, I found a wide selection of organic cotton and organic hemp, but the actual comforter that goes inside the duvet cover? I seem to have hit a brick wall... Any advice?
P.-S.: Time and talent constraints mean building my own comforter is out of the question. Thank you for the suggestion. I am looking to buy.
So you want a Vegan comforter (i.e. no down, no wool, no silk) that doesn't involve a chemical process (like Polyester).
If you're going to get hemp sheets, why not get an organic hemp comforter also? They cost a bunch, but they'll last you forever (and like a good wine, they get finer and better with time :-] If you live in a mild climate, you can alway get an organic cotton comforter.

They also carry organic cotton comforters for a wee bit less (barely).
I have to disagree with corn (Ingeo fibers). Sure, it's a Vegan alternative, but what about the fact that cultivating corn for textile (or for any purpose other than food) contributes to the global food crisis? What about the workers, are they paid a fair wage to harvest the corn used in the massively marketed Ingeo fiber? My guess is no.
To me, as a Vegan, caring for all living things also includes humankind. Organic, fair-trade hemp (or cotton) should be an integral part of the Vegan way of life. And you know what? Hemp can definitely be hip :-]

Where can I find these types of clothing or fabric for just $10 or less? And it has to be 100% (100% silk, not 96% silk and 4% nylon)! Thanks so much!

Vegan Fashion Organic Cotton Peace Silk Pleather
), Many environmentalists began to avoid animal products as the next step in an ongoing search to shrink their carbon footprints. Who’s gone vegan? According to the Vegetarian Times, nearly one percent of Americans--more than one million people--neither consumer nor use any animal products, while seven million of us are vegetarians, and more than 22 million primarily follow a plant-based diet.
Veganism isn’t a science, and those who live cruelty-free make their own decisions when it comes to what they will or will not wear. Some flat-out won’t wear anything made from animals; others will wear “humanely-harvested” wool, or ahimsa, also known as “peace silk,” in which...News
