Organic Cotton Product

Organic farming means not using artificial substances in the production of a crop (food, or otherwise... to include animals and cotton).

It takes several years to certify organic through most government programs. You have to be examined, your practices must be carefully documented (By you, and checked by a government authority), and you have to follow strict regulations.

Only way to do this is to do some research and figure out who you need to call to start the process.

Edit: Some natural pesticides and fertilizers are restricted in organic farming, so you really do need to check the regs for where you are.

We are expecting a child in December 2009 (we don't know gender yet) and have started a registry at Babies-R-Us, but cannot find many products: wool/alpaca blankets, cotton plush blankets, modern looking cotton nursery bedding, organic toys, foam mattress, light-weight crib in cherry color (there is one in maple color at Babies-R-Us though) ...
Does it mean that we should open a registry at another store instead? What other national store chain would be good for a variety of organic/quality baby products?

There are a number of companies that can provide you with any end product in organic cotton that you design. The end products are up to the imagination. If you can design it, they can create it. The cotton used in production in India does not all necessarily come from Indian farms. The cotton and fabric could be obtained from numerous countries in order to fulfill an order. This is where it is important to ask for information regarding their certification, so that you can confirm where the cotton is coming from and where it is certified organic cotton.

WTF???? How's that for being two-faced?! It's actually worse than non-organic cotton! :-(

BUSTED, MAJOR TIME BUSTED!

This reminds me of all these so-called "natural and organic" shampoo & skin care companies that tout their products as "chemical-free" "organic and natural" "safe for chemically sensitive folks" and you turn the bottle around and it's got all these ingredients you can't pronounce and you search them and they're not only very toxic and carcinogenic, they're not natural at all (even though the company claims "vegatal" or "from coconuts") Well yeah after you add a crapload of synthetic carcinogens to the coconut you can still say that it comes from coconuts, you're just deceiving us by not disclosing the full truth!

IT'S TIME THAT INDIGENOUS DESIGNS AND OTHER MANUFACTURES OF SO CALLED ORGANIC COTTON CLOTHING AND ORGANIC SKIN CARE OWN UP TO THEIR DECEPTIVE TACTICS! CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT, ANYONE?

Chemically injured and chemically sensitive people (aka persons with MCS) need to have full disclosure here. Personally, I have lead poisoning and don't need the aggravation.

Your question caught my interest since I'm about to purchase some Peruvian sweaters so this is really scary!!

Ok. I just had a chat with Overstock.com They claim the "manufacturer" told them it has lead. So I'm thinking maybe Indigenous Designs is not at fault here but maybe they are in the dark? Maybe someone ought to contact ID's Matt or Scott. The thing that's confusing is INDIGENOUS DESIGNS IS THE MANUFACTURER! Overstock did acknowledge that the label is the manufacturer. But I'm thinking maybe the Peruvian artisans are lying to I.D? And telling the truth to Overstock? Hmm...it's really weird. And deceptive to say the least.
