I just bought my kids brand new, organic cotton/latex/wool mattresses, but have a big problem.
My son has diabetes and when his blood-sugar is high, he wets the bed. But he WETS the bed. Meaning - a big puddle. Are the natural wool or cotton mattress pads going to work for him?
i would think it would soak thru. i know they are not organic but i worked in a nursing home and used what are called chucks under our residents. they aren't organic but a lot better than plastic. i would think you could find them at any medical supply store.
good luck.

Hi We have recently invested in organic mattresses for our two babies as we believe that the chemicals in normal mattresses maybe harmful to our babies. However, do we now need to buy organic cotton sheets or would the chemicals and pesticides in these sheets be washed out in a normal washing machine?
I would stick with the organic.

As a young child I was allergic to the world. From flowers to sheep and even most soaps. I have outgrown most allergies (or they are less severe) and can now take things such as walking near flowers without needing to be rushed to the hospital. On the other hand, some things have lessened but are still quite bad (such as fresh cut lawns). I had a real allergy towards wool (in other words, I didn't just get hives from wool but I would have a full on asthma attack) yet I want to buy an organic mattress. I have been looking at Abaca since I am moving to Europe but they have a ton of wool wrapped around cotton. I assume this keeps the bed from being so itchy. Is organic wool different? Will I have less of a reaction to organic wool thats covered by organic cotton?
I would be very wary, allergies can come and go, I would think there are other materials that may suit your needs. Good luck.
We are expecting a child in December 2009 (we don't know gender yet) and have started a registry at Babies-R-Us, but cannot find many products: wool/alpaca blankets, cotton plush blankets, modern looking cotton nursery bedding, organic toys, foam mattress, light-weight crib in cherry color (there is one in maple color at Babies-R-Us though) ...
Does it mean that we should open a registry at another store instead? What other national store chain would be good for a variety of organic/quality baby products?
Do you have a buy buy baby near you? They have a bit higher end things, and many organic products.

Michael Murad of St. Louis Park is not your typical mattress buyer. If he were, he'd spend about 30 minutes selecting an $800 queen-size bed. But Murad is trying to create a greener home, including where we spend one-third of our lives -- in bed.
Murad, a software developer who tries to live green, buying at thrift shops and following reduce/re-use/recycle, is concerned about indoor air pollution and the environment. He researched mattresses on the Internet and went to Sears, Original Mattress Factory, Select Comfort and Twin Cities Green in search of a product that is compostable at the end its life -- no steel coils or oil-based polyester fabric or foam. By the time his new green mattress was delivered (by mail, in fact), he had spent $1,800 and nearly 15 hours of searching.
