Where are the best places to look for organic cotton bedding and linens?
Lexi's Bag Back

I've noticed some places like Pottery Barn, but I like soft sheets so I was hoping for a higher thread count like 400 and higher. I live in Nevada but also go to Cali and Oregon often...
P.S. I've just started going Green this year, and little by little am trying to make a difference, I know organic cotton is much genetler on the earth than growing conventional cotton!

Block Party Quilt

I'm curious about organic clothing and the impact of this on people and enviroment.

The only advantage with the pure textiles that I can see is that they can be laundered at home ~ once you begin blending linen/cotton or wool/cotton, you have a garment that needs to be dry cleaned to keep its color and shape....and dry cleaning is a chemical process that uses perc, which is hazardous and environmentally unfriendly.

Sleeves for linen and cotton...

soy, bamboo, organic cotton, tencel, hemp linen

I would say for North America Hemp and Organic Cotton. I don't know much about soy or tencel. But Bamboo and many of the wood fibers have to be shipped a great distance. I've also heard that the process for turning them into cloth is chemical intensive.

I would also conside organic wool and other animal fibers that can be harvested without harm to the animal.

Which fibres do you like the textile products in your nursery to be made from?
the golden slipper

examples are
wool, cotton, cooton poly blend, linen, polyester fleece, acrylic, soft bamboo fibres, organic cotton.

This is just a question form my questionaire for my disatation. : )

I would prefer organic wool, cotton and bamboo for everything, but it's not as easy to find as I'd like. Plus it's more expensive. *sigh*

  • Handmade home: Repurposing old materials into new family treasures

    And teach she does.

"None of us has to look very far back in our families to find people who out of necessity were able to make new things from old," says Soule, 33, who lives and writes and sews in Portland, Maine, with her four children, ages 10 months to 8, and her husband, Steve, a civil engineer. "We all have that in our roots."

These are ripe times for repurposing, Soule says, and notes that the point is not to whip off some "stellar sewing masterpiece" but rather to stitch layers of history and heart into the everyday.

Rather than a home and a day filled with disposables, Soule marks her day washing dishes with a repurposed cloth, making beds with quilts stitched from swatches of old clothes, or marking a page in a book with one of her children's embroidered-over artworks that makes for a fine bookmark.
