I just bought my kids brand new, organic cotton/latex/wool mattresses, but have a big problem.
My son has diabetes and when his blood-sugar is high, he wets the bed. But he WETS the bed. Meaning - a big puddle. Are the natural wool or cotton mattress pads going to work for him?
i would think it would soak thru. i know they are not organic but i worked in a nursing home and used what are called chucks under our residents. they aren't organic but a lot better than plastic. i would think you could find them at any medical supply store.
good luck.

I just bought a few organic cotton items and they're all very rough and scratchy to the touch. I got some bedsheets & napkins. The handkerchief is flannel and very soft and so is the tank top. But all woven cotton ended up really UGH! The napkin is rough on my raw lips it hurts. (My lips are chapped and peel so...)
What do I need to do without chemicals to make the cotton soft? (I can't use regular detergent, I have severe chemical sensitivities, it's awful!) --NO FABRIC SOFTENER, PLEASE-- Sorry for caps, that stuff makes me vomit, I kid you not, I can't be near that I might as well live with rought & scratchy.
What is enzyme wash? Do I just open a digestive enzymes capsule and add it to some water and launder like that? Will the enzymes "eat up" or digest the rough stuff?
Or will the cotton naturally soften after several washes? I use Dr. Bronner's soap to do my laundry due that I can't use even 7th Generation detergent is loaded with toxic chemicals, UGH!
Thanks for any suggestions! :0)
try using vinegar in the rinse water. and it will soften the more it's washed.

can anyone else relate to me on this...
i just saw the commercial about the new sony ORGANIC high def tv. honestly, are you kidding me? a tv is in NO WAY, SHAPE or FORM organic. It never will be, it is the complete and udder opposite. I am all down for being organic and being green, I do as much as I can plus some. However, it is becoming almost like a trend, and its obnoxious. Like the t-shirts that are all about recycling and being green, but from target? yeah i'm sure that those are made by hand with organic cotton or whatever. This is ridiculous. People should be green if they want to be, i think its good that it is being stressed but it has now become a trend and the TV just TOPPED it off for me...
please relate with me.
i hope organic hippie that you are agreeing with me, because i am the furthest thing from a naive tv watching fool...
trust me
Honestly dont be such a fool! Poorly tested chemicals are put into your clothes shampoo carpet cleaner and toothpaste. If you think the chemicals they put into your tv are completely safe then you are a naive little man!
If people weren't worried about the potentially harmful chemicals companies are putting into their goods THEN THEY WOULDN'T MAKE STUFF LIKE THAT.
On top of that the chemicals that these plants use end up in our water and pollute our skys. Don't believe me?! I got this from a goverment website.
I'll say this again, dont be such a tv-brainwashed naive fool!
Edit-If it is USDA organic then it is organic. Period. There are alternatives to chemicals for everything. If a television is organic then they are using organic circuitry and natural materials rather then the poorly tested chemicals companies try to rush into our products and is probably also reflected in the price. I do not think that this is over the top at all, infact I thank god that we are beginning to revert back to our much safer natural ways. Being organic is not a trend it should be (the only) way of life. Like I said these factories dump chemical waste into our waters. If you really want to do as much as you can then try to influence these companies into safer practices by avoiding the products that are poisoning our people and destroying our world! I will have to say no I cannot relate to you on this.

Hey all
I am planning a super eco friendly wedding, and am fast running out of ideas. here is what I am doing so far- please give me your input and more ideas!!
-local dj to cut down on gas used for his travel (same with the caterer and photograper)
-locally sourced food (from the caterer) and organic and free range when at all possible
-outdoor ceremony with acoustic music (no electricity needed)
-recyclable platesl, napkins, cutlery made from bamboo
-my gown is organic cotton
-the confetti being thrown is eco friendly and totally biodegradeable when it gets wet
-the confetti is being given out in seeded paper cones that grow flowers when you plant them
-no favors, a donation is being made to a local sick kids hospital instead (guests will be made aware of this by cards placed at their tables)
-invites are printed on "tree free" paper cards, postage being used is bought and a donation made to the world wildlife fund...
-flowers used are local and in season...
This a growing trend and personally, I love it!
1) Maybe for wedding gifts you could ask for people to buy 'Carbon Offset Points' so that your wedding can be a carbon neutral event.
2)You could use Soy or Beeswax candles for lighting, they have been shown to be less carbon producing that the standard petroleum candles.
3) If you wanted an alternative favor you could give a small seedling or seed packets as gifts.
4) Donate any left over food to a homeless shelter
5) Use local beer and wine producers for beverages, cutting down on transport costs and carbon emmissions.
Just a few suggestions.
Good luck with your earth friendly wedding!

Kids Health - TV or not TV?
It all began when I was looking for something different for my baby, manufactured in organic cotton but not the typical beige or white garments we find everywhere, unfortunately, during my research I didn't find anything that caught my eye. My passion for music and design gave me different ideas and this is how Gizmoroo was born, we have a great small collection of funky and very original designs, with bright colours and printed with low impact transfer stickers... just what your baby would choose :) All our garments are made of 100% certified organic cotton.
