Have you heard anything about airing diapers out before using them?
Not perfect but I am happy with them!

I read something a while ago about letting diapers air out of the package so the fragrance goes away and the chlorine releases before you use them. I bought a package of dye free organic cotton diapers and they are super expensive. I dont like the fragrance b/c it always gives me a headache when I open the pack so I can imagine what it does to the baby.
So have you heard anything about airing them out first?
i've thought about cloth diapers but I dont think it would work for us, my hubby is deployed and I dont even have time to sleep as it is,lol
The 365 ones from Whole foods are the ones I tried but they are ALWAYS out of our size.
do you have any links for those cornbased one? Thanks

I have never heard this but I suppose it makes sense.
They make disposable diapers that are chlorine-free if you want to use a disposable w/o chlorine, I believe they are corn based (the ones I'm trying right now are anyway). Not sure they are all that much better but every little bit helps, I suppose. The price is equivalent to Huggies or Pampers.

ETA: I sure don't but I will look (when I get home) to see what they are called and try to find a link. I know they are called Natural (something?). I bought them at HEB in Texas. I will try to remember to edit this tomorrow.

.......... I wasn't able to find a direct link in English (here's their site though: http://www.absormex.com.mx/). They may be sold under different names but the manufacturer is Absormex (S.A., Monterrey, Mexico).

Here's a neat site that I did come across: http://www.disposablediaper.net/default. asp

Is it safe/recommended to use wipes on a newborn?
Helena Zinnia Flip One size

I was reading the What To Expect the first year, and it said you should use cotton balls instead of wipes on a newborn. I'm all for having a healthy baby, and not using harsh chemicals on my baby (like organic cottons and chlorine free and organic diapers, etc) but cotton balls sound ridiculous to me. It seems like it would take forever and be a big mess if you tried to change a messy diaper like that. Moms, what's your opinion on this?

It is perfectly safe, people have been using wipes for many years now on newborns, use ones for sensitive skin if you are concerned.

organic diapers?
Helena Zinnia Flip

today my sister (whose pregnant) and i were watching tv and saw organic diapers. i looked online and i still dont understand how they work. it seems like they're made of cotton but how does that prevent leaks? do you use organic diapers/baby things for your baby? how is it working for you?

i dont know about organic diapers but i have been exclusivly cloth diapering my daughter since birth...she is now five months old and i will never, never go back to disposables...

my cloth diapers save me money, trips to the store, and my baby girl is not being exposed to all of those chemicals that are in disposables these days...not to mention that im doing my part for the amount of diapers that wind up in landfill on a daily basis...

i use pocket, one-size diapers...Baby Kangas or BumGenius 3.0s and i love them more than i can say. gone are the days of folding, pins and plastic pants...they are just as easy to put on and take off as disposables. not to mention that she is yet to have any kind of rash or irritation unlike my now four year old who was constantly breaking out (not due to her not being changed very regularly)...

check out www.wildflowerdiapers.com and www.twolittlewhales.com for all information on cloth diapering...i love that im saving a fortune...ive pretty much broken even now and my daughter is five months old...

Has any one tryed the Huggies Pure and Natural diapers?
Flip Cloth Diapering system_1

They look really cool they're organic cotton, hypoallergenic, have added aloe & vitamin E, and fragrance free. Just wondering how well they were and what your though were about them. I will definitely be trying them next diaper run.
Sorry about my grammar ... I'm tired.

Yes, we actually did try them. I LOVE them. My 4-month old daughter has Exzema really really bad and she cant handle hardly anything I use on her. And these diapers dont even effect her whatsoever, no breakouts. This is the only thing Im buying from now til shes outta diapers. :) Oh, & they have the cutest little designs on them. The ones that we bought have Classic Pooh on them, precious! :) They are also super soft too. I highly recommend them to anyone wanting to try them. Hope this helps some. :)

  • Can you Wash Chemicals OUT of Cotton?

Hi, I am looking to cloth diaper my first two children. I am trying to buy only organic diapers (the part which will touch their skin) but they are more expensive and less readily available than diapers with 100% cotton interiors. I am wondering, can I “wash out” the chemicals used to make this kind of cotton? I have to prep the diapers anyway and wash them 5 times to get the absorbency up and working…

Would love to know if these chemicals can be washed out. Also, can fire-retardants be washed out?

THANKS so much,
Robyn

ANSWER: Cotton FABRIC does NOT contain pesticide residues. These are removed during processing. This has been laboratory tested in Germany. Cotton BATTING DOES contain pesticide residues, if it is not organic, as it is not as processed as cotton fabric. So it is imperative to buy organic cotton batting, as in a mattress or pillow, but not important to buy organic cotton diapers or clothing.
