I am in Canada and have only found American suppliers and the fees are outrageous. I am specifically looking for jersey knits, blended with cotton and maybe spandex. Also, if you know any other places to buy other natural fibres, like bamboo, or organic cotton I'd be interested in that as well.

This is just a question form my questionaire for my disatation. : )
I would prefer organic wool, cotton and bamboo for everything, but it's not as easy to find as I'd like. Plus it's more expensive. *sigh*

I have 2 cotton/silk blend sweaters. The instructions say to dry clean or wash on gentle & lay flat to dry. I washed the first at home (gentle cycle, cold water, w/ Woolite) and laid it flat - when it dried it came out like cardboard! I took the 2nd one (and the one that I washed at home) to the dry cleaner (was an organic dry cleaner) and they are now both stiff and itchy. My previously soft and comfortable sweaters are now both itchy and uncomfortable. I've taken one of them to a regular dry cleaner in the past and it was fine - thought I'd try the environmentally friendly cleaners and the sweater is awful.
Can they be salvaged at this point? Was the organic cleaner just a bad dry cleaner and that's why my sweater was ruined, or do they use a different process that ruined it? How can I wash them at home and not ruin them?
These weren't overly expensive sweaters, maybe $40-$50, but I loved them and now they make my skin itch and they look weird!
You should NEVER have put it in a washing machine! (stiff & itchy). When it says "gentle"...it means "HAND WASH.".
"Woolite" is ok...but THINK of anything made from insects (Silkworm)...as your HAIR... & use SHAMPOO! Especially SILK. (it's made from the Silkworm).
Take your 'ruined' sweater, 'shampoo' them BY HAND....IN THE SINK, and then 'condition' it too (just like you would your hair)! Lay it flat on a towel to dry...and I think you'll 'SALVAGE' the sweater that's stiff and itchy will be softer than before. You may have ruined it in the washer...(you'll know better next time---it's just a sweater! as you said)..
but>>>
I doubt that it is "RUINED". It probably WAS the organic cleaner and your mishandling than made them stiff & itchy. Dry-cleaners can differ so much with their product, the solution (used too many times), & their method of drying. If the solution was dirty that could cause stiffness---and the bacteria left behind could make them itchy and not fresh.
ALWAYS ASK YOUR DRY-CLEANER HOW OFTEN THEY CHANGE THEIR CLEANING SOLUTION !!! If they don't say "daily"....take your garment and LEAVE. Don't bother to explain why you're leaving...if they can't figure it out---it's their bad! ...just leave!
TRY THE SHAMPOO.
Hello! We're due in December, and live in Minnesota, so it will be a COLD December. It's our first, and we're a bit overwhelmed - in a good way!
We're just now getting registered for everything, but we're a bit confused about what type of sheets to get.
There are cotton/organic/flannel/jersey blends... is there a type of sheet that is better than others for newborns? Anything we should stay away from?
Thanks in advance!
Just get the regular type sheets. The baby will already be in a sleeper and probably be swaddled in a blanket. You don't need to worry about the sheets. Whatever you get will be fine. You probably don't want the flannel ones or anything that keeps the baby too warm. Both of my children hated being hot especially in the winter. They were in a normal swaddle receiving blanket in their sleeper and that was good enough for them. You don't want to over heat the baby. Go for the cheap ones! Good luck and Congrats!
