Cotton Spandex Dress

Well Basically I've been planning to bleach a brown dress white, it's made out of semi-stretchy material which is of cotton/spandex, so will it bleach badly? it's like 40% spandex or something.

You can not bleach a dark color. It does not actually turn it white. Bleach has trouble enough getting dingy whites to be white. It will just ruin the dress. It will have an uneven and multicolored look. It will at best turn it a funny brown-yellow color.

Dr. Pepper should have come out with a normal washing. Good luck with the Oxi- if it doesn't work then your only option is to take it to a dry cleaner. BTW, sometimes, with old t-shirts that my kids have stained like crazy, I'll try washing them in a bleach load- even if they're colored. My reasoning is that they wont be wearing it in public again anyway so why not try. Sometimes it just bleaches the shirt- oh well. But sometimes, it works to remove the tough stains without removing the color. As a last resort- it's an option.

Some how hubby wound up with fairly nice dress shirt like this. I washed it in cold and barely dried it, went to iron it and it just stayed wrinkly looking!

What am I doing wrong??
Should I let it air dry then use light steam ironing?

I am a whiz at cotton but this spandex is throwing me a curve!!
Help!

Yes,use the steam,by all means, and that should completely solve the problem.If not, use a mister or spray starch,dampen it slightly,and iron it dry.

I just got a dress that is 95% Cotton and 5% Spandex. It's a medium-dark blue and I really want it black for homecoming (Black and White Theme) I did a little research and found that you can only use cold water dyes for spandex but I was also wondering if it would even work if I tried to dye it black and also I found a type of dye that says it uses WARM water... I can't find any cold water ones so could I use that dye or no? And if not what stores sell cold water dye???

Hot water will not damage spandex.

I am planning on buying this polyester/spandex matte jersey dress online but they dont have my color so I was just wondering if I could dye the dress, and how to dye it.
My other attempt to dye a cotton dress was detrimental, I wanted it blue but it turned purple even though I followed all the instruction to a second.

No, that's not a good idea. It is not possible to dye a polyester/spandex blend. Because polyester can be dyed only by boiling it for some time with disperse dye, while spandex must not be subjected to any high heat at all, it is necessary to dye these two fibers before they are combined into fabric. Ordinary dyes, such as the dyes you can buy at crafts stores, will not work at all on polyester.

What kind of dye did you use to dye your cotton dress? You will get better results on cotton with fiber reactive dyes, such as Procion dye, Tulip One Step Fashion Dye, or Dylon Permanent dye, than you can ever get using an all-purpose dye such as Rit. Also, since all dyes are transparent, the original color will always show through and affect the color you get afterwards.
