I've got some cotton baby dresses, the kind with smocked necks and some with smocked sleeves, that are about twenty years old. I don't plan on having kids for 5 or 10 years, but I want to keep them safe and in good enough condition that my babies can wear them one day. How can I best store them ?

This is a hard one because fabric tends to rot no matter what. You much make sure that the dresses are clean. Either wash them good or take them to the cleaners. Store them in an air tight plastic container away from the light, cold, heat and moisture. Good luck. Hope they do well.

Smocking and red and lime accent details

My granddaughter's heirloom smocked dress has a small Betadine stain from the hospital. How can I remove it? The dress is white cotton.

Make a paste out of Oxyclean and water and apply directly to the stain. Rub in gently and let sit, then wash as normal.

I am confident in my ''intermediate'' sewing skills...and have made plenty of little girls dresses. But Im interested in learning the 'smocking' technique. My grandmother used to make the most beautiful smocked cotton baby dresses with picture smocking on the breast. If anyone has any tutorials or know where I can learn this technique itd be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
