How to shrink a cotton dress shirt?
Girl with shoulder hand bag:

I was recently given a 100% cotton dress shirt but unfortunately its a size too large. I've been to several of the store outlets but none of them have the shirt in my size. Usually I'd just change it to another but I really like this shirt so was hoping that I could perform a "controlled shrink" on it. It's currently a size large but I'm a size small. Any tips so that i don't overdo it?
Sorry, it's a size medium, not large

If it's cotton, about all you'll have to do is wash it in hot water, and then dry in a hot dryer. Cotton shrinks a good bit, but not sure if it will be enough.

How do ,I or the cleaners, clean a cotton dress shirt so it wont shrink?
Men's clothes and accessories

I have a highly valued Burberry nova check, cotton shirt. And the directions say to wash and iron and such. But I don't want the shirt to shrink. How do i tell the dry cleaner to clean it? How could I do it myself without shrinking the shirt? Its some kind of fancy cotton ,but 100% cotton.

Thanks, Joe

If Its Worth A Lot I Would Hand Wash It Myself! Just Wash It And Dont Put It In The Dryer! Air Dry!

Removing paint stain from Cotton dress Shirt?
Tarrinazo

I have a blue cotton button up dress shirt, which has a light streak of paint on the back that I would really like to remove. Particularly, since it happened on the first day I wore the shirt.

It's a light, white paint, thin streak. Any suggestions, especially ones that spring from similar experience, would be appreciated tremendously. thanks

Depending on the paint base you might try getting a small can of paint thinner from your local hardware store.
Test the thinner on a hidden spot of the shirt to make sure it doesn't remove any of the color in the shirt itself. If it does, stop.
Put several folded white paper towels under the spot. Put a small amount of the thinner on a cotton ball and lightly dab the spot. If it seems to be working, go over the entire spot. As soon as you have removed the entire spot, completley dab out as much of the thinner as possible and apply a small amount of detergent. Rub carefully and rinse thoroughly.
Clean entire shirt as usual.

Getting a stain (olive oil or yogurt) out of my cotton dress shirt?
Business man

Hi,

I have a brand new expensive cotton dress shirt that has an olive oil or plain yogurt stain, actually 3 of them, all 3 the size 1 inch in diameter, brought to the cleaners, no avail, any help thanks....

You should put lots of telcome powder or some white powdered thing on the stain. Leave it for a while so that it can absorb the oil and then wash it.
Well it works good if you put powder asap you get the stain.

Can I wash a 65% polyester/35%cotton dress shirt?
Tasso Elba NWT Baby Blue Striped Soft Egyptian Cotton Mens Dress Shirt 17 36/37

I have a long sleeved dress shirt that apparently has no washing instructions on it. The label says "Poplin. 65% polyester and 35% cotton" on it, if that helps. Is it safe to wash and/or dry it in normal household washers and dryers? Or do I have to dry clean it? Thanks.

It is safe, you should use the permanent press or delicate setting. Wash in cold cold. Then dry on delicate. I have several of these shirts. I wash them all the time.

I had been wanting a shirt/cargo dress for a while. Found this one at an outlet location of a Turkish store callled Koton. I like that it is super thin (t-shirt like) material. Other qualities I like are it has snaps instead of buttons, the selft belt easily comes off and has belt loops, it has side and front wrking pockets. I do wish it was khaki color instead of dusty rose pink as that would have gone with more things but this also works. I plan to wear this dress like a coat over other dresses. Have not tried that combo on to see how it looks. First decided to wear it as it was meant to be. Took out the self belt and used my leather belt instead. Scarf make it a bit more dressy. Again wore...
