Cotton Crochet Dress

It says handwash only because it has crochet design but it's 100% cotton..the top part is loose though..what would be the way to shrink? I would use the gentle cycle of your washing machine. Allow the dress to air dry..if it's still not the size you want it to be...put it in the dryer...you may have to use a steam iron to flatten any decorative crochet. make sure you place a light colored towel over the dress while steam ironing.

i have a pattern for a lacy dress for a toddler that says:
100% mercerised cotton thread, 3-400Yd.balls
does it mean size 3 or 3 balls --if so, what size thread?
the frock looks lacy and fine

When in doubt, buy more than you need and keep the receipt.

That's what I typically end up doing.

When a project calls for mercerized cotton, you can substitute baby yarn and just use a smaller hook. The project will work as long as you check your gauge and stick to it.

(I read your pattern as meaning 3 balls of 400 yd. thread.)

I'd wear it anytime...doesn't matter I just like it! its not for a special occasion or event

it depends on what it is covering up....the third one ishotbut you have to have the body for it!

If "3 x supplies" doesn't give you an idea, go to sites that sell things like this and see what they're going for. Make sure the items are comparable in style, material, quality, and skill to yours. You can start with Etsy.com and go from there. Sell yours for about 5% to 10% less, if you can, so you'll e sure they sell.

I have a wedding dress about 100+ yo. It is cotton crochet and net-hand made. It has turned yellow and has to be dirty. It was white 40 years ago. How do I clean it ?

It would be best to bring it to a specialist, but those are hard to find.

I collect vintage suits from the 20's and 30's so I am slowly building up some experience, and I can tell you to NEVER dryclean, because drycleaning uses quite agressive chemicals that could damage the old fabric beyond repair.

Carefully handwashing it in lukewarm water would probably be best, followed by air-drying.
