Garden wedding 11.00am invite says formal? then at 2.00pm later a dressy casual BBQ . What is appropriate for this a summer cotton dress, black chiffon dress, black/.white skirt and top or dressy top over white pants/ Am really in a quandary as most weddings these days are informal (neat and casual even) HELP HELP
I'd go with the summer cotton dress or black and white skirt and top. White pants and BBQ might not work well together. Since it's outdoors, I might even wear black pants and a semi dressy top, if you have black pants.

Sexy Form Fitting Designed to Flow to Your Every Movement in Comfort
Fashionable at the Office to the Dance Floor
Made In New York with 99% Cotton & 1% Lycra
It's knee length, very short-sleeved (almost cap-sleeved), and made out of cotton, so it's not like a jersey/poly blend material cocktail dress or anything like that. It's very simple. I don't feel comfortable in any thing else, that I can FIND anyway. I was going to wear some strappy sandals with it (flats)...
Thanks Mimi. ME TOO. Black is just IT for me. Thanks Again, what a relief!
URCHIN - WOW, thanks!
Considering the aspects that it is summer and it is a baby shower, perhaps a black dress will be a little too oppressive to support in consideration of the two details- it's marked as a faux-pas.
The length and the capped sleeves sound simple and demure/modest, but that undoubtedly concerns if you are a modest or ostentatious dresser. I would recommend a powder color; baby blues, pinks, yellows, whites, pearl, and beige.
Beige is becoming an outbreak color and can be used with great versatility, especially in the summer. Even though the black cotton dress is represented as the quintessential event dress and essential in a woman's wardrobe, it does not mean it can be used everywhere to everything and may not justify a comfort zone as it is epitomized.
As you stated, you feel comfortable with the black dress, but what areas do you feel uncomfortable with without wearing the black dress? Why not try to use other articles of clothing that disguise and/or ease the uncomfortable zones and mix and match spring colors.
Pairing some light cotton pants with a white tank top, or a pencil skirt and a thin dress shirt with suffice as it is simple and appropriate for the event and time.

If you like the cut of the dress, perhaps find that dress or a similar one but in a lighter color, as I mentioned; beige, baby blue, pink, etc.
Flat shoes are perfect for the occasion, as is a strappy sandal.
But, if you decide to were the black dress, pair it up with a white belt, black flats, and a colored necktie or necklace.
Hope I helped, and enjoy!

Looks more like a cocktail dress than an apron
Both stylish and functional
I'm not looking for light or pastel green. I want something like clover or emerald that is above the knee, and not mad of cotton. I'm looking for soemthing a little fancier than that. I've been looking all over & checked plenty of websites, but if you know of any sites with some suggestions, please share them with me. Thank you! :)
I was looking for an nice evening style fun dress earlier this year, and I know Victoria's Secret has some fancier dresses:

(a little longer then knee length but still nice)

(slightly more casual but with a great twist being backless)

(more simplistic but can be accessorized to be fantastic)

(the full bubble skirts are becoming really popular)
Hope this helps! Tried to find different styles that were knee length and above knee that were fun flirty and fancy looking, but still kelly/emerald green! Hope you find what were are looking for!
I have a close fitting, black cocktail dress made mainly out of cotton. How could i customise it? What're your suggestions? Thanks!
well i dont know what it looks like exactly...so here are a few options.
add a layer of peachy-pink tulle under it
add crystals [very good imitation ones] at the bottom.
-bigger and closer together at the bottom and then smaller and more spread out reaching toward the top
have a line or two of equally spaced crystals at the bottom and then as you go up space them out a bit more and then make several rays of crystal going up in a single line...hard to explain...
but be creative with the formation
add an elastic waistband to the bottom and then curl/tuck that part in towards you so it doesnt show and it looks poofy
http://www.gossipgirlinsider.com/images/ gallery/hot-mess.jpg
^kind of like that but doesnt have to be so dramatic...unless you want it to look kinda couture
attach a big fat dramatic bow if it has straps/off the shoulder sleeves....make sure it matches the fabric or it will look totally tacky.
now if you changed your mind, not good at sewing or jsut want a fresh new look without totally changing it forever, try just wearing it with things you have in your wardrobe...like a long boyfriend drapey cardigan over it with a skinny patent leather belt. then add cute ankle boots. voila ! a new unexpected urbam quirky and chic look !
a belt and a cute necklace will completely change the dress. I would suggest a belt with a bow on it [google this, or try forever 21/delias]. a brightly fun colored patent leather belt[J.CREW J.CREW J.CREW] for the perfect one or a double wrap around one

Also take a look at THESE SWEET BELTS WOULD LOOK AMAZING OVER ANY DRESS. Take plain to extraordinary:
ughh I cant access the j.crew website but search BELTS in both clearance and regular...they have this amazing flower tie belt. also search their fall flower pins. couture and timeless. [trust me they do NOT look cheap tjhey were designed by world renowned designers the same every designer asks to make flower accesories for runways..each one runs maybe 30 dollars..cheap investment for changing a simple dress forever. they are exquisite]
for necklaces for a classic look...try some MULTI LAYERED
necklaces...amber/champagne/gold toned, small beads and bows, charms, semi-precious stones, and hearts will do well.
check american eagle..or forever 21. I love them for their cheap jewelry that looks amazing for any sstyle. Also express fashion for some ahmazing ones. pearls look nice, try knotting them for an audrey hepburn esque look.
http://images4.lussori.com/ProductImages /Jewelry/Necklace/Zoom/cho_hj04_z.jpg
^try that for an all time high fashion couture look....that cost slike 239857 dollars but Im sure you can find something similar...or to that collar effect...
I also like the dramatic busy diamond necklaces, or the bib type ones. but any diamond necklace would look great, really.
you could also tie some fun colored/patterned pucci type scarf at the waist...some sort of long silk sash. tie into a bow, simple knot, or let it cascade casually down...the understated ruffle is SO chic. I saw these amazing ones at victorias secret the other day..or you could take one from another dress that has a sash...
http://store.delias.com/item.do?category ID=&itemID=50589
^the product would kind of be like this maybe? see that sash? you could attach something like that to your dress and it would transform it !

My best friend is getting married in three weeks. Everything is ready, we’ve organised the church service, sent out the invites and had the RSVPs back, we’ve got food (and cream tea, yum!) and bridesmaids dresses and BRIDES dress, we’ve got first dance through to last dance (that’ll be me on my own I think) planned.
Yes, everything is ready… except my evening dress. Now I don’t really do ‘dressy’, at least not evening dress. Most days I look like a student at an agricultural college. I wear flats (often loafers, never boat shoes) with rolled up trousers and long cardigans, and I frequently sport a top knot – I’m from Cirencester, what can I say, it’s in my blood. But dressy dresses are not my forte. So after five hours (no exaggeration) of shuffling around Bath culminating in me crying in Topshop when NOTHING fitted properly, led me to try something a bit new.
