This lace was purchased in Belgium about the turn of the last century by my grandfather. My grandmother used the lace for this christening dress for my mother. Each member of the family (about 20) have all been christened in this gown. Now it is very dingy and has yellow stains on the bodice and on the cotton batiste bodice. I've soaked both pieces in hot lemon water and now need to wash it "in the usual way"! Because of the delicate nature, I'm not sure whether to use Dreft or if there is something else which may be safer. I really need help soon! This is for the greatgrandchild of my mother - the original person to be christened in it. Please hurry!
Hi,
Please do not wash your gown. My daughter did that to my chistening gown and ruined it. It just shredded it. My advice is to take it to a professional who restores fine lace, and satin items. This maybe a little expensive, but at least you will have a restored gown that you can continue to charish.

I have made a Christening dress from #1o crochet cotton and dont know how to price it . The set includes bonnet and booties. It too me 2 weeks to just do the dress.
A generally-accepted rule of thumb is three times the cost of your supplies. However, in some cases that presents you with too high or too low a selling price. See what you come up with at three times the cost of your supplies, and see if that's a reasonable price for the dress. Remember, if the buyer isn't a close friend or relative of yours, he or she is mainly interested in the finished product, not the process you went through to get that product. Price accordingly.
If "3 x supplies" doesn't give you an idea, go to sites that sell things like this and see what they're going for. Make sure the items are comparable in style, material, quality, and skill to yours. You can start with Etsy.com and go from there. Sell yours for about 5% to 10% less, if you can, so you'll e sure they sell.

the only dress i have that fits right now is black - it looks just like this:

just a simple cotton dress...is it ok for a christening?
also - if it's chilly are leggings still "in"?
i'm not big into fashion & most of the time don't care but i also don't want to look like i'm trying to fit in and missed it by a few weeks/months/anything
would they be ok if they come to my ankles with black mary jane heels?
i will be wearing a tank-top under the dress - if i wear the leggings the shirt will match them
i honestly hate the leggings but i have them left over from an 80's halloween costume
& i was born in '83...hehe
I don't think leggings have been really "in" since 1983. Its almost summer so leggings would be pretty weird. If your going to wear black,, you should probably wear a white top or something bright. But seriously, most people aren't going to care what you wear,(except for those leggings) they will surely just be happy you came. enjoy.
I want my daughter to wear a sweet little white dress that was mine when I was a baby-it's cotton with a little collar and a little white ribbon bow on the front...I don't want her to look like she's being christened though! Should I choose a different dress? I do have another dress that was mine as a baby-it's blue with bloomers and I don't want people to think she looks like a boy (the old ladies at church keep saying "he's so cute" even though she's in all pink! ridiculous)
what's your opinion?
The dress (either one actually) should be fine. If people get confused over her gender even if she's wearing pink, well, what can you do. I'm sure she'll look adorable and the senitmental value is priceless.

A few weeks before the baptism, which even some mothers star shopping while in their pregnancy itself. It is just great that when finding christening gown, you do not have to wonder if it is blue or pink. As all gowns are clean white. And yes they are dresses. No tops and pants or other fancy panorama that flit around the newborn baby. These clothes should be cute collars, short sleeves and is long and flowing. It will even float over feet of children.
