Brown Cotton Dress

Have used the color remover but it did not lighten the brown. Not sure if I should just go with a darker color, like purply rather than orange.

if you used RIT color remover and it didn't work, you could risk bleaching it with pure, real bleach (but, again, you're risking streaking or turning it yellow), then you can turn it orange after that

the reason the color remover didn't work well is because manufacturers of clothes have special dying processes that make taking out dye almost impossible.

if it's 100% cotton and you wouldn't mind the risk of messing it up a bit in the process, go for it. if you really like it and don't want to mess it up, just go find a dress like it in orange, if you can.

i wouldn't recommend purply, since that's not in the same color family as orange and brown.... if brown looks good on you, the purply would make your skin look bad.

(so i would say, just bleach that sucker and dye it. most you've got to lose is a good dress, and you can always find another one)

Well Basically I've been planning to bleach a brown dress white, it's made out of semi-stretchy material which is of cotton/spandex, so will it bleach badly? it's like 40% spandex or something.

You can not bleach a dark color. It does not actually turn it white. Bleach has trouble enough getting dingy whites to be white. It will just ruin the dress. It will have an uneven and multicolored look. It will at best turn it a funny brown-yellow color.

How can i shrink my brown cotton dress? its almost all cotton but the bottom and neck line is silk.

Rather than shrink it why don't you simply take it in or up whatever way you want to shrink it, as cotton is not all that easy to shrink even on a boil wash, as you may end up with it going baggy and the silk at the bottom and on the neck line will crease bad and will take a lot of ironing to get them out

and i got a couple of bleach stains on the front of it...that are now a little orangy in color ...any ideas how I can cover these stains??I think a marker would add a dark stain on top of it..

You could dye the whole dress again. Just find fabric dye in the color that you want and dye it in the bath tub. That's really the only thing that i can think of.

I've never dyed clothing before and I have a light brown dress that I bought desperately wishing it were dark brown. Does anyone know the best dye to use to make it dark brown? It's a cotton dress. So I need to know what brand of dye to use and how to do it!

Use dylon machine dye. All you do is put the dye, some salt and the dress in the washer on a 40 degree wash and its done.
