Black Cotton Wrap Dress

I just bought a 70% cotton 30% silk wrap dress in black. The fabric is just a little shiny due to the 30% silk. If you've seen this type of fabric before, please answer my question:

Does it look nice/stylish or does it qualify as "cheap" since it's not 100% silk? Would you wear a cotton/silk blend?

I'm wearing a black (100% cotton, so quite matt) Chinese dress from Zara. Its is absolutely and totally plain. Morevoer, I'm olive-skinned with long straight dark hair. So I obviously need something to jazz it up a little. However, I'm quite a classic sort of girl and will not go spend money on a big red handbag as I'll never use that bag again. So whatever I'll buy for this dress, would need to be something that I can use over and over again. Any tips on types of earrings (studs? drop/dangling? chandelier? hoops? colour?), shoes and handbags would be welcome! Also, would it look too 'odd' if I wore one of those long necklace things on a Chinese dress? I have a gorgeous pearl and silver 'wrap around' bracelet that I'm wearing with the outfit, and the pearls are 2 shades of blue - dark blue and light blue with a silver 'bar' in between each pearl.

anything with silver on it always goes beautifully with plain black and as for earring try something dangly in silver ..not hoops and for shoes try plain black and if you look in your local charity shop im sure that you could get a plain silver bag for a bargain price of a new one so even if you never use it again for the price that you will have paid it wont really matter....what ever youve brought your out fit for ....have a great time and im sure that you will look stunning....

OK ladies this is hard because of the golden no-no rule that you don't wear cotton and satin/ silk together, because i have a black wrap around cardigan which i know I can't wear because it's black and cotton, and also because it will make the dress to casual! but my arms i dont like and also when the wedding is on its going to be cold too, i have no clue what to wear over my arms?? and what color, also i have shoes similar color from my dress so I don't want too much matching and my tights are black, :) also do you think this is OK for a wedding?

Dahling, I would go with the black faux fur vest and black caberet gloves, you know, right up to the elbow, if your tights are black then the accoutrements should reflect the same, we all know how the drapes should match the carpet now don't we and the fashion houses look down their noses on erroneous duplicity.

My opThe wedding is at a church. The reception is at 4:30 at a golf and yacht club. My choices are:
1. Black 3/4 sleeve wrap dress with pearls
2. Black dressy sweater set with a slate blue pencil skirt
3. Blue and ivory small floral print with black trim wrap dress 3/4 sleeve - It is cotton - I would wear it to work and I'm a teacher.

With all I plan to wear black hoes and black patent peep toe pumps.

ok..i have a wrap dress thats black and i want to dye it another color....is it possible to do that if the fabric of the wrap dress(like most dresses) is not cotton. i think its like 95% rayon 10% spandex.
I was thinking to do it with dylon dye,because i live near a joanne's fabric....but i dunno what i should do to get it another color.
I dont care if it turns out gray or burgundy..just not black....

No. Dye is transparent, so it can turn a garment to a darker color, but never to a lighter color. Since black is the darkest of all colors, it cannot be dyed to any color besides black.

Instead of adding dye to your dress, you might be able to remove dye from it, to make it lighter in color. Whatever you do, don't use household chlorine bleach (hypochlorite), because it will destroy the spandex. Chlorine bleach is death to synthetic fibers. Instead, you can use a sulfur-based color remover, such as Rit Color Remover, which is sodium dithionite, or Jacquard Color Remover, which is thiourea dioxide. Some dyes will lighten considerably when treated with these products, but some dyes will stubbornly stay the original color no matter what you do to them. You can't tell whether the dye in your dress will respond to Rit Color Remover until you try it.

You can use Rit Color Remover in a washing machine. A large washing machine load will require at least two boxes, so be sure to buy enough.
