100 Cotton White Dress

I just bought a new white dress. It is a little too big and I want to shrink it. What is the best way to do this?

Wash with hot water and dry on high however if you are trying to shrink a dress be wise to remember by doing this you run the chance of shrinking to small it may fit you in width but the length may be more like a shirt then a dress. If it's on of your fave dress bring it in to a seamstress.

Cotton clothing is not at all too delicate to wash at home, quite the contrary, actually. It is preferable that you wash it by hand. Use cold water and degreaser to remove any stains, along with a powder detergent. Simply fill a small tub or sink with water to do this. Sticking the dress into the machine is likely to wear it out sooner than if you wash it by hand.

I wash the shirt in Auto Warm/Cold on Regular mode, then I dry it on Permanent Press (or even Regular) and it comes out VERY wrinkled! I have to iron the darn shirt for almost 45 mins for it to look DECENT! HELPPPPPPP!!

USE A GOOD FABRIC SOFTENER!!!!!!!!! AND HANG IT OUT TO DRY, IT WILL BE EASIER TO IRON. IF YOU ARE GOING TO DRY IT, ONLY ENOUGH TO TAKE THE DRIPPING WATER OUT OF IT.

Yes. You want warm but not hot water wash. Spray treat any stains that may be on the shirt, like the collar and sleeves, etc. I'd use a cold water rinse with liquid fabric softener to cut down on wrinkles. You should only have it in the dryer on low for long enough for it to get steamy and then remove it shape and hang it to dry. These is no way to get out of ironing a 100% cotton dress shirt but that will cut down on shrinking/ wrinkles and puckering of the seams in the shirt. Use the steam setting on the iron and also a LIGHT spray starch like Magic Sizing.

It means it is delicate and should be washed gently by hand. Get a basin of cold water and wool lite soap for delicate and swish around in the wash basin and sort work like your agitator on the washing machine. Let it soak a while and then swish it around again and squeeze the suds through it a few times. Dump out the soapy water and wring the dress gently getting the water soap and suds out. Then rinse into cool basin of fresh water. Swish around a few times more. wring it out from the water again and do one more rinse to make sure no soap remains. Wring it out gently and roll into a bath towel to dry partially. Hang to dry. It isn't a lot of work at all but to explain it makes it sound difficult. Good Luck
