The wax ended up dripping onto the cotton fabric and hardening. I washed the fabric in the washing machine twice already, but the stain still doesn't come out.
The stain may not ever come out completely, but you can try this:
Heat your iron (regular clothes iron) to the cotton setting, get a piece of a paper grocery bag as it is absorbent, put the paper bag piece on the was spot and use the iron on top of the bag piece to heat up the wax and fabric by going back and forth over the spot. The wax should stick to the paper. move the paper around and reapply iron.
This works on carpets too.

How do you remove candle wax from a cotton black t-shirt?
First put your shirt in the freezer for about an hour. Then scrape the hardened wax off. The residue is now mainly grease. You can use dish washing liquid to remove it.

I accidentaly dripped some candle wax on a cotton blend shirt. I have no idea how to get it out. I doubt that simply using a washing machine cycle will work. Even if the water was hot enough (which it isn't).
First rub an Ice cube over it then see how much you can get out. Then put a couple of layers of paper towel over it and use an electric iron to heat it. The wax will get hot then wick to the paper towel.

The other day we accidentally spilled hot wax from a burning citronella candle onto the side of one of our garden furniture cushions. I'm afraid to try and iron it out in the "traditional" cleaning method because of the citronella oils in the wax (I don't want to remove the wax but leave a grease stain on the cushion.) The fabric is light green colored and is most likely cotton treated with some sort of waterproofing material. The cushions are able to be unzipped so we can remove the upholstered cover from the cushion. Thanks for your help!
try rubbing the wax with an ice cube and scraping it away
I have just bought a waxed cotton jacket that can't be washed or dry cleaned due to the finish of the fabric, but it smells really musty. I know that you can use ammonia, borax, vinegar, baking soda etc. in the washing machine, but how can I get the smell out at home without getting the jacket wet?
It's been hanging in a well ventilated place for a week, and I've already febrezed it twice.
Hang it outside on a nice day and let the fresh air blow through it.

Ok, ok. So the ball & chain is right: I have a bag fetish. It’s actually a container obsession: our house is full of oddly shaped jars, vintage cans, quirky bowls & trays – all holding tchotkies I’ve gleaned over many years of foraging flea markets, boutiques and the like. But, yes, bags, pouches, fabric zippie things – sign me up. Now, although not one of the gazillion New Yorkers that swears by her bike (I’ve purchased a few over my NYC years, subsequently biked to some rendez-vous and parked the thing, only to leave it there, abandoned forever), I
“Death and Texas may sound like a dire name, but I’ve always found inspiration in the images and aura surrounding this great state. You name it: rodeo costumes, tooled leather, old cowboy boots, equestrian gear, horse tack…I even like the way the landscape photographs, like in old movies where the sunset casts a pink glow over everything and still it all looks so tough…”
