How to keep stripes straight.

I bought a bed skirt online that was supposed to be a pale blue and white stripe, but is actually navy blue and dark beige. I can't return it, so I'm wondering if there's any way to lighten the colour. I'm a little reluctant to try bleach, as I don't know what that will do to the fabric. It's 50/50 cotton and polyester, and I'm open to suggestions. Thank you.
Thanks for all your help with this problem. I decide to try dye remover, which didn't work even when I used twice the recommended amount, then i decide to try bleach, and even 2 cups of bleach in a bucket of water didn't do anything. The tag clearly says 50% cotton and 50% poly, so this one of the two should have had some effect. This thing is indestructible!

You can try bleach or a color remover, but chances are you're just going to turn it another upleasant color or two, depending on how the polyester is distributed in the fabric. Polyester does not bleach well by home methods.

Could you live with it if you overdyed it navy?

The other possibility is to use an opaque but light bodied fabric paint... though that will make the fabric stiff.

I washed it in warm water with detergent only, no fabric softener and no bleach.

If it is a good brand and you just got it, I would return it to the store. It should be colorfast meaning it will not fade.
If you have any bleach on hand, use about a teaspoon in a gallon of water, dip it in quick, and then take it right back out.
Then rinse it quick,. If the red is out of the white stripes, then set the colors by setting it in vinegar water, maybe about 1/2 vinegar to a gallon of water. Let it in about 10 minutes and then you will have to rinse it in fabric softener or something to get the smell of the vinegar out. This has worked for me in the past.

Must be a two way or four way stretch. Not Nylon. Love stripes, circles or contemporary florals.
