So I looked on Joannes crafts website, maybe I am just unable to see it , but I do not see the stretch cotton fabric knit type of fabric that basically is almost like a t shirt kind of fabric that can be used for a number of things including shirts, etc....Its stretchy cotton.
Question: Where can you buy it, is it on Joannes craft store website at all? Is it sold anywhere else?
Does anyone know what the name of this type iof fabric might be?
(Some place that sells by the yard)
The name for this fabric is cotton jersey. It can also be called "interlock" knit, one is single knit, the other is double knit, both are used for t-shirts. A search of cotton jersey fabric will give you hundreds of sources. One of my favorite on line stores for novelty jerseys is Wazoodle. Sew baby has some cute children's jerseys. Finally, the fabric tab rather than crafts of joanne's has lots of nice jerseys and knits.

I bought a dress pattern and lovely cotton dress fabric- upon closer examination the pattern calls for knit/stretch only. It's New Look 6748, but I was planning to add a little fullness to the front to make a maternity dress. What will happen if I make this pattern with the fabric I bought, which has no stretch at all?
Don't do it. I work every day with stretch fabrics. the patterns designed for stretch fabrics are cut differently with much less ease and room than ones designed for woven fabrics. For instance a pattern for a skirt of woven fabric adds 3-4 inches to the hip measurement, when knit patterns do not. These ease measurements are not built into knit patterns, they assume you are looking for a smooth, tighter fit, especially around the shoulders, arms, back and bust. Stick with patterns for woven fabrics. You will be disappointed in the drape and fit of your garment if you decide to try it.

and i want quite a strong fabric(nothing flimsy which will be hard to hold for sewing)
does anyone know a good comfertable fabric?
If you look on the back of the pattern, it will tell you which fabrics are suitable for the dress. If those are your choices, go to a fabric store and feel each one. Hold a length of it and see how it'll drape. Of those, linen is the easiest to work with, crepe is the most slippery. I like stretch sateen, personally.

i make my own clothes sometimes, but i can only find the cheap, non-stretch cotton fabric in art stores around where i live. i`m looking for the stretchy, soft kind of fabric that`s in good quality, such as the ones from American Eagle Outfitters or Abercrombie&&Fitch. anyone know where i can get those kind of fabric??
Jo-Ann Fabrics?
It means that if you grab one end in each hand and stretch, it will stretch, but if you turn the fabric 90 degrees and grab and stretch, it won't. So if you made a shirt out of it, the shirt could stretch to side to side but not top to bottom.
