What equipment is needed to harvest a white silk cotton tree?
Peacock Feather BUTTERFLY Pure Luxury Handmade Dupioni Bridal Silk Clutch

I'm doing a math project where i have to make a product not literally make it but find out how much all the items needed costs. I'm trying to "make" about 20 silk leaves. So how much white silk cotton do I need to make 20 leaves? And I need equipment to make them, so what equipment could I use? PLEASE HELP!!!

Silk is a natural protein woven into textiles from larvae from insects mostly a certain type spider.
It is the strongest fiber made. Man has never been able to reproduce this amazing fabric.

Cotton come from a bush that is very stickery. It grows around 3-4 foot tall.

To make 20 silk leafs it would depend on the size of your leaf. I would think a half of a yard of sild would work for you.

Tools: I use a sharp razor one sided blade on a hard flat surface

Can I restore a silk/cotton shirt that was washed and starched?
Peacock Feather BUTTERFLY Pure Luxury Handmade Dupioni Bridal Silk Clutch

I have a beautiful shirt that went out with my business shirts and came back looking dull and drab. It is 55% silk 45% cotton. I assume it was laundered in warm water and starched. Can anything be done to restore the appearance?

You can try rinsing the starch out with cool water, what do you have to lose if you think it's ruined?

Is it possible to launder a cotton silk blend fabric in a washing machine?
Danny's 2010 Knitting Calendar

I found a great deal on a cotton and silk blend fabric, but didn't ask how to launder it when I bought it. Now I have seven yards of really nice fabric, but want to wash it before I cut it. Now, how do I do that?

I would...cold water, mild detergent (possibly Woolite), gentle cycle and low heat dryer.

Does anyone have sateen bedsheets with a high thread count? Do they feel more like silk or cotton?
Part of Danny's spindle collection.

For our second anniversary I would like to buy some nice sheets for my husband. I have been looking at about 1000 thread count but most of the ones Im seeing are made of sateen. Im not familiar with this. I read that it is made of cotton and looks like satin. Im concerned about the texture. Id like to know from someone's personal experience, does sateen feel more like silk or cotton? Thanks.

I have some that are 1200 thread count.
They are soft and thick. Very much less like silk and more like cotton. They also hold up very well when they are washed. If you are going to buy some, try looking at overstock.com or Amazon (they also have delivery options if you need them more quickly). I found the best prices on these sites. I ordered mine from Overstock.com and paid under $100 for king size. I have been very happy with them.
I sleep with a ceiling fan, EVERYnight. I found that when I have those sheets on the bed I have a third thin blanket on my bed (between the sheets and comforter). Mainly because my comforter is very thick and it is just too much because my husband is like a heat generator at night.

is it better to use silk or cotton?

  • Traveling the Silk Road: Ancient Pathway to the Modern World

The name conjures mystery, intrigue and untold treasures, camel caravans winding across sun-scorched deserts, the intoxicating aromas of jasmine, cardamom, cinnamon and more.

In a major new exhibit opening tomorrow at the American Museum of Natural History, the fabled trade route — which stretched from the far reaches of China to Central and West Asia — comes alive.

For curator Mark Norell, the exhibit, "Traveling the Silk Road: Ancient Pathway to the Modern World,’’ is the culmination of a childhood wanderlust.

"I was always fascinated by the Silk Road,’’ explained Norell, chairman of the museum’s division of paleontology. "I always liked reading about travel to Asia.’’

South Orange Patch - 'Uncommon Threads' Shows Convergence of Craft ...

The Seton Hall Walsh Gallery's current exhibition, "Uncommon Threads," includes needlework, quilting and crocheting. The idea behind the show is to explore the potential of fabric as an artistic medium and to dispel the notion that traditional forms using fabric are women's work.

"We didn't see there to be any reason for craft to be at odds with art," explained the gallery's director Jeanne Brasile, who co-curated the current exhibition—open through Dec. 11—with Howard Hurst.

Participating artists hail from Scotland and Illinois as well as closer locales like Brooklyn, Jersey City and Montclair. Many of the pieces are site-specific like "Plants" by Brooklyn-based artist Megan Piontkowski, for which a drywall room was erected in the center of the gallery and adorned with flowerpots and plants hand-stitched out of felt, silk and wool. According to Brasile, the idea was to create a contemplative space. In previous iterations of the work, the plants had simply gone on shelves in the exhibition space; however, the thought was that adding the architectural detail of the drywall would be an interesting complement to the fiber work.
