In terms of it's use then none unless the reel says 'button thread' which is much thicker than ordinary sewing cotton.

I have a signer sewing machine. not sure what needle to use. 11/80, 14/90, 16/100??? seems that the needle that came with the machine is causeing stiches to be missed.
I use a 14 for most every fabric of average weight. For knits I get the ballpoint needles which are especially for knits (cotton or synthetic).

You should use thread the same composition as the base material. The reason is for washing and drying. Having the same composition for the thread as the base means both will react to the wet and dry cycle and not bunch up. If you use different materials, either the base cloth will bunch under the thread or the thread will loosen. Either way, the sewed joint flexes unevenly and eventually will simply look bad, wrinkled and there is nothing you can do about it. An iron will NOT flatten distorted seams from mismatched thread and material. Most times, you can get away with close, similar, but I would not count on it. I've never seen this happen personally. I'm going on what my mom told me when I learned to use a sewing machine. Don't give me that look! My mom thought I would be a hard core bachelor and needed to know these things. Oh, and yes, by the way, I really CAN cook very well, thank you!
I am new to sewing and will be working on a project soon. I purchased 2 yards of 100% cotton from a fabric store. (i forgot to ask this question and now do not have their number..) Should I pre-wash the fabric or not?
Well, I'm going to be the odd man out and say you don't have to wash your fabric. In the past, dyes were not always colorfast and tended to run. But with the new dyes today, that isn't always the case. Test a small piece to see if the fabric color will bleed. If it doesn't, you don't have to wash it. I would recommend always washing red and purple fabric, because they are tricky. And if you wash one fabric, you have to wash all the fabric going into that quilt, because you want the shrinkage to be the same throughout. Washing the fabric also takes the sizing out of it, so if you like the crisper feel when you are sewing, use a 50% water and liquid starch mixture in a spray bottle while you are pressing your material. And I've never washed a piece of fabric that I didn't have to iron it, so expect to spend some time at the ironing board. I also cut my fabric into manageable pieces (1/2 to 1 yard) before I wash them so that they are easier to iron. The shrinkage is manageable, but this will give your quilt a different texture. Some like it and some don't.

Vols Will Try To Reverse Chick-Fil-a Misfortunes Against Virginia Tech
Although it won't be official for several days, it appears that Tennessee and Virginia Tech will square off in the Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta on New Year's Eve.
Multiple reports emerged on Tuesday placing the Vols in the bowl—which is played in the Georgia Dome and is televised on ESPN. The Chick-fil-A Bowl was the most logical bowling opportunity for Tennessee after the Vols were apparently snubbed by the Outback Bowl.
The bowl creates a matchup between the Vols and the Hokies that is sure to be highly anticipated. Separated only by a short drive along Interstates 40 and 81, talk of a Tennessee-Virginia Tech matchup has persisted since the Hokies surged onto the national scene under Frank Beamer. Bristol Motor Speedway owner Bruton Smith even tried to negotiate a deal that would have seen the two teams square off in the infield of "The World's Fastest Half-Mile."
The Joy of My Life, and other things: Kids Crafts: Sewing
I collect scraps from my sewing projects just for this Sewing Activity Kit - fleece and cotton are my favorites. I use the fleece scraps to cut little shapes like flowers, leaves, circles, squares; and cut the cotton scraps to either 5x5 or 5x6 or 6x6 or 4x6 inch pieces on which to sew the fleece forms. Plus some threaded needle, extra spool of thread, a pair of scissors and glue completes this Sewing Activity Kit. The only rules: don't poke yourself; keep the needle away from your face; do the activity where Og cannot reach you or the needle; and when done, the needle gets safely stuck on the fabric before getting dropped into the container to be put away in the cubby where Og cannot get to...
