Recycled Cotton Clothing

Does anyone know where I can recycle cotton clothing?
The Drop Outa School Top

I'd hate to just throw it away...it's not worth selling or giving to charity.
I've seen places on TV that actually break down the fibers and reuse them to make new clothing, that's what I was kinda thinking...but I don't remember where I saw it.

I use cotton clothing as cleaning/polishing cloths sometimes by cutting the article into pieces.

Why arent there places that will recycle used cotton t-shirts and other cotton clothing and turn it into paper
poofy space tunic - black, reconstructed

I have paper that is made from 100% cotton! That is really cool cause cotton is natural and biodegradable. Why arent there companies out there that take uses cotton items and turn it into eco friendly paper producs, like copy paper and paper bags and the like? I think someone needs to adopt this idea and start recycling cotton. I just recently threw away about 100 old t-shirts, and felt horrible doing so. Any opinions accepted or ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

There is a company in the US that turns old bluejeans into building insulation. So there are companies out there that do recycle cotton. There is also at least one small "youth business" that reuses old clothing to make tote bags etc.

Keep looking.

Where can you recycle cotton products such as clothing?

Besides the well known options such as using old shirts as rags or donating, what other options are their for disposing of old clothing in a enviromentally friendly way? Is there any place to drop off clothing that will recycle it for another use?
Like I said, donating is an obvious answer. I want to know if there is an actual recycling process in place for clothing, specifically cotton products. So I dont want to hear "bout ur blue bins"
and "the poors".... is it not 2007, have some dignity.

There are companies that recycle clothes into cleaning rags for commercial and industrial use.
There are also companies that make knotted rugs out of old rags and clothes.

I have some clothing made from recycled plastic bottles that are great. Why don't more manufacturers try this?

The fabric has a brand name called EcoSpun. It is made from PET bottles, typically water and soda.

I have a number of items, a t-shirt, sweatshirt, vest...all from different manufacturers, none of them mainstream or well-known.

They seem to breath well and it washes and clean fine. The average person thinks it looks just like cotton.

I like to recycle and want to buy items made from recycled.

I know there are plenty of others who do as well and I would think some designer or clothing manufacturer would mine this market better.

Good for you! EcoSpun is some awesome stuff. I have several items made from it myself. You should do a search for it. Another company you can check out is Patagonia. They just started a recycling program for several of their lines. Part of the issue is that the manufacturer of EcoSpun had some financial issues when their plant burned down a number of years ago. They are still in business but I think things have changed with them. The reason that you don't see too much recycled stuff is that the trend in sustainability is moving towards organically produced cotton or alternative fibers such as hemp and bamboo. All of these things are just as positive for the environment as recycled content manufacturing. Search the web for recycled products...they are out there...they are tough to find though!

Where can I send clothes for recycling?
professional moping sweater. in black of course

I know they make recycled cotton tee's but WHERE can I send clothing for recycling? I've looked all over and I can't figure it out. I have a LOT of old clothes so I don't want to just use them as rags or make new clothes or anything else around-the-house. I know I can donate some of the clothes but for the stuff that's not fit to donate, I just don't know what to do with it all! I don't want to just throw it all away...
I'm saying if I DON'T want to donate the clothes (either because of not good condition or undesirable to any buyers) where can I send/bring them to be RECYCLED?

I donated clothes before to a thrift shop and they had me pull around back to unload and right there in front of me I had seen a thrift store employee throwing clothes in the trash!! i asked why? and they responded because we can not do anything with these clothes, no one will buy them. I was really upset because I thought they would at least re-donate to like Africa or something. So you know what I do now-- I drive to a poor area and just drop it off --one time I had drove into a very poor mobile home park and just dropped clothing off at someones step and drove away. I posted a note on it--if you want it keep it, what you can not use pass to your neighbor.
