How do i wash a lightweight sweater made of pima cotton and baby alpaca?
its a very sheer, lightweight sweater... i think its 90% pima cotton and 10% baby alpaca.
i was thinking of carefully handwashing with baby shampoo and cold water.
... First, turn sweater inside-out. If you cannot find any tags or labels with cleaning instructions, I'd use baby shampoo or "Woolite" (soap made for delicate fabrics), then dry flat on a towel, switching it over occasionally until dry. Good luck! :) ...
Cotton is Cooler, Thanks to The University of Arizona More info: thanks.arizona.edu
I like nice sheets. But all the 100% cotton sheets that I can find are sateen and I am tired of these. My mother used to buy a nice set of 100% cotton at JC Penneys years ago. They were really crinkly. But they were cool in the summer and warm in the winter and I cannot find them anymore.
Egyptian cotton
Considered the best cotton in the world. Cultivated mainly in the Nile River Valley in Egypt, this grade of cotton boasts the longest and strongest fibers. Used in high-end towels and linens.
Pima cotton
One of the best grades of cotton in the world, ranked right behind Egyptian and Supima cotton. It features long, luxurious fibers used in high-end towels, sheets and more. Grown in the southwest United States and Peru. Learn more at www.babyalpima.com
Supima®
Grown and trademarked only by members of the Supima Association of America. Made of 100% American Pima cotton. Strong and soft. Rivals Egyptian cotton as the second softest cotton in the world.
Sateen
A type of fabric weave that creates a soft, smooth, lustrous surface. This finish is usually added to fabrics like cotton in products like shirts, sheets, draperies and upholstery.
Which are more absorbent, durable, etc?
I like Egyptian cotton, very soft, Pima cotton also good, try both, it's really a matter of taste, I find Egyptian very absorbent and last forever, the sheets also rank highly with me, well worth the price.
If so, what do you need to do in order to make sure the item still keeps its shape and doesn't get ruined??? The sweater is from Ralph Lauren and I'd hate to lose it, but if that's the case I will just buy another.
Yes i had to shrink a pima/silk sweater - Let it air dry for an hour or so then put in the dryer on low when its still damp in the dryer take it out - shape it and let it air dry for the rest.
So I bought a black RL PC Sweater and don't have any instructions on how to clean it. Can you machine wash?....Does it need dry cleaning only?-This thing cost like $100 so I don't want to ruin it.
-Any help is appreciated ...thanks.
Don't waste money on dry cleaning or try to machine wash it.
Hand wash in either woolite or baby shampoo. Rinse in cool water until the soap is gone.
When done, squeeze (don't wring) the sweater to get most water out. Lay the sweater flat on a towel and roll the sweater up into the towel. Press down on the rolled towel with your knees until you can feel water soaking through. After this, lay flat and reshape to dry, either on a towel or on a drying rack. Be careful if you use a drying rack, as these can leave unsightly marks on the back of the sweater (dowel marks). After it's dry, either steam it out or iron on a medium setting (steam is ok) while it's inside out.
Good luck.

Roundup Flex Pima approved
Earl Williams, president of the California Cotton Ginners and Growers Associations, said in his round of gin meetings and field days, as well as discussions with his board members, that 300,000 acres is a reasonable estimate of cotton acreage next year in California. If realized, it would represent a one-third increase in cotton acreage over 2009.
The California cotton industry last year proposed a stewardship program to track the seed from the gin to its end use, but it was not successful in getting Monsanto’s approval to sell RF Pima last season. A similar program was proposed to allow Roundup Ready Flex for 2010, and Monsanto approved it this fall, well in advance of next spring’s planting season.
