How do U.S. cotton subsidies affect cotton prices in the international market?
Rectangular Wristlet Bridal Purse Bag

How do the subsidies affect world prices? I know the basic gist so please include an in depth answer, as much as possible. I understand that the U.S farmers will produce more because they have an irrational incentive to, the supply goes up, thus the price goes down. But could you please give more of an explanation and list any other mechanisms that cause international prices to be depressed?
Okay, Lawrence down here is speaking as if he's an investor and not an economist. I'm looking at only cotton and how cotton subsidies in the United States depress cotton prices in the world wide market, therefore harming developing countries which are forced to sell their cotton at lower value.

A subsidy to a cotton grower is only effective when the incentive in question (the subsidy) is valued more as a last resort than any other avenue available to a cotton grower.

So, international prices are not going to be depressed. The Corn, Soybeans, and Sugar (due to Ethanol demand) alternative outweigh any proposed government subsidy. Therefore Cotton acreage will be depressed due to it being torn out of the earth in favor of the previously mentioned commodities. But, that doesn't mean Cotton Call Options are the best bet either (I like Big Brown in the Derby by the way).

The demand for Corn and Soy far outweigh that of Cotton as far as Futures contracts are concerned, so there's that. Of course, Cotton demand come September can't be discounted. But the potential for future International #11 Sugar contracts to erupt suddenly and unpredictably always exists.

Government subsidys won't come into play until September when the crop harvests come in.

Currachs are the wonderful skin boats everyone knows but it is far more difficult to find the right documentation to build a replica. Thanks to the WWW i've got now some info but still have some problems into finding here in FRANCE the 18 oz. bale cotton duck canvas requested as well as the right coal tar needed.
Perhaps some people could help me into finding a cheap and reliable source that accepts shipping overseas ?

The correct way to wash 100% cotton jerysey clothes. Thanks.?
Rectangular Wristlet Purse Bag Deep Red Mustard Yellow Dots

Pls advise the international standard of washing 100% cotton jersey clothes. It's better to wash them by hands or by machine? To hang them in the air until it is dry naturally, or to put them in the dryer machine? What is the difference of the clothes to dry in the air and to dry in the machine?

Check the labels for manufacturer advice.
Personally, I machine wash - short cycle, not hot.
I dry in the air - on hangers. This makes for less creasing and a lower electric bill.

  • Cotton yarn crisis

Post Source: Dawn – Economic & Business Review

As if the shortage of sugar, gas and electricity was not enough, cotton yarn has emerged as the latest addition to the premier league of scarce commodities. Cotton yarn is a basic raw material for value added textile sectors which boast of the largest industrial employment and significant economic contribution. Its sudden shortage and surge in its prices has forced the value added sectors to make an extreme demand to ban cotton yarn exports.

Cotton yarn availability for domestic market has been on the decline since early October when hectic exports took place between July and September. Export volumes skyrocketed in October and early November, making the commodity scarce and expensive.
