Hot Cotton

I bought these new cotton undershirts and the washing instructions say ti wash in warm water.

Will hot water damage the shirts over time you think? They have a lay-flat collar... will it ruin those?
EDIT: I don't mind if they shrink, I just don't want it to ruin the collar in any way (it's really important to me for the collar to stay nice and snug and not stretch).

Like, I have cotton shirts, and denim jeans, and I wash them in hot water, my fiance says they shrink, I tell her they only shrink when I dry them, and the jeans only shrank once, is this true, or are the clothes shrinking every time I wash wheather I dry or not? My clothes my whole life have never shrank, and I have used hot water to wash and warm sometimes cold to rinse, and I dry on high heat all the time, she says I buy extra baggy clothes so I don't notice the shrinking, I just want to know if it is true that they are shrinking by washing in hot water, the label says to wash in like colors in warm water.

Our washer washes in hot, we can was in cold but I prefer hot, gets 'em cleaner, and it rinses in cold, but it is not too cold just a little cooler than room temp.

Our clothes are American cotton, and some are even mixed with polyester, and most were bought at Wal-Mart or Ross.

If you don't dry the jeans they will be hard if no softener is used, But they will not shrink. You need the dryer for that. Do his the way he thinks and let him see the difference, when you put yours in the dryer.

For example. will it go out of shape, wrinkle beyond repair, lose color?

I bought a black cotton coat and it wasn't cheap (to me) and it's brand new, but I need it to go down one size smaller. It's a black cotton coat. Will hot water cause the color to fade or will the coat get out of shape?
After one wash??

i would try washing and drying it in the dryer SEVERAL times, but using warm water not hot. the drying wil help in the shrinking process.

i have this size large 100% cotton hand wash cold only hang dry shirt. its white and has GOLD foil decoration all over it randomly. i need it to shrink. im scared if i wash it fully in hot water it will damage it. but if i just drop it in hot water, take it out after a minute, then put it in the hot dryer.. will that work the same? and will it damage it? i can turn it inside out too of course.

What does the cleaning instructions say (should be on the collar tag)? I think you could wash it on delicate, then place in the dryer for a few minutes (but not until it's dry or you will ruin it). Take it out of the dryer and let it hang to finish drying.
