Cheryl Cole's hair: the reality behind the fakery

Frankly, I wish we’d all wake up. Shock, horror: using products such as the new L’Oréal Elvive shampoo advertised on television doesn’t always make you look like the celebrity advertising them. Disappointing when it’s the gorgeous Cheryl Cole, who we suspect looks gorgeous with or without hair extensions; but something of a relief when it’s, say, Kerry Katona on a bad day.

From the broadsheets to the red tops to chat forums on the internet, the Cheryl-Cole-in-fake-hair-scandal – in which Ms Cole has been lambasted for advertising a shampoo’s ability to revive her “weak, limp, lifeless” hair, even though she uses hair extensions – has seen the minutiae of real-versus-fake discussed in far too much detail. After a journalist complained in a newspaper about how shocked her young daughter was that Cheryl’s hair couldn’t be achieved solely by using Elvive shampoo, one reader was moved to write: “Why is a nine-year-old so concerned about their hair anyway? They should be out playing in trees, on bikes or up to their necks in mud somewhere…” True, that.
