Crochet Cotton

I found a pattern for crocheted string bag (like a shopping bag) but can't figure out what fingering weight yarn is? Can anyone help me?

Doesn't matter. All you need to do is make sure the 2 are the same thickness. Exactness won't count because it doesn't have to "fit" something. It's just a bag.

My only thought is that a poly would be more parctical than cotton.

I have a beautiful bedspread pattern which my Mum crocheted for my wedding. I would like to do the same for my daughter.

I don't know where in the UK, but I know that annies attic sells it.

Cotton is expensive and there is time.

I would consider the cost of the thread/yarn. Lily's Sugar and Cream is about $2-$3 depending. It takes about 1/3 of a ball of it to make one dish cloth...It would take me about and hour or two to make one.

How much is the person willing to pay? Most people are not willing to pay what the time and effort is really worth. One way to over come it is by selling them in a small bundle. Like 3 for $11 or 1 for $4.50.
or one for $5 and two for $9...see if they buy more and feel like they get a "discount" you can get away with charging a little more.

We used to do it with watered down white glue. Mix equal parts of white glue (elmers) with one part water. Soak the string in it, as you are taking the string out of the glue run it between your fingers to get the excess out, then wrap your balloon and let it dry. Pop the baloon, pull it out, and you're done!

I have thought using that too. But apparently the string used for candles are treated somehow so they burn slowly and I was told to only use candle wicking and nothing else.
