I am considering cotton-ease but I am getting mixed reviews on the lion brand product. Please help! Yarn is exspencive and I can't afford to spend money on stuff that won't work.
I'm making a sweater. I like the feel of cotton much better then wool. I love how TLC Cotton Plus knits and cares, but I'm looking for a charcole color.
I worked at a knitting store for a year and a half, and the best cotton yarn by far is Blue Sky Alpacas brand organic or dyed cotton. I use it for everything. It is so soft, comes in a lot of colors, and is worsted weight. It's even machine wash and dryable. It comes in hanks of 150 yds and usually costs around $10 a hank. You can find it at some yarn shops, but you can go to the blue sky site for stores that carry it. Or you could get it online. The store I worked at has an online store and carries it all the time. It is called Unwind Yarn in Burbank, CA. I just moved to NC and there are no local stores that carry Blue Sky, which is my favorite brand. They also have great alpaca obviously. I will be continuing to order it from Unwind! Nothing else compares.
I've seen some patterns for shower scrubbies and soap savers. (Crochet - but that doesn't really matter for this question.) Most of them call for cotton yarn, but I was thinking that the scrubby I use now is synthetic - why wouldn't I use acrylic yarn to make my own?
So what are the pros and cons to using each type for shower accessories? And for dishcloths, too, since they also see a lot of water.
As the other user said, synthetics are usually too soft. Try using Sugar'n'Cream yarn. It's fairly inexpensive, available at most craft stores, and comes in tons of colors.
Better yet,if you can find bamboo yarn, use that. Bamboo has a natural antibacterial quality, and the fibers retain that quality when spun into yarn. This makes it perfect for kitchen and bath items. Crazy, right? Plus, it's super soft and SUPER durable.

I'm making a baby blanket for a friend's mother, and so I want to be sure that she can machine-wash the blanket easily. The label on the hank said to hand-wash, but various sites that sell the yarn said machine-wash is fine. Is it fine to machine wash it, or how badly will machine washing damage the yarn?
The biggest problem is probably going to be shrinking. If this were clothing, that would be a big issue, but for a blanket, it should be alright.
It's very important to note that when you give handmade gifts to a baby or child, they're going to need frequent washings. I'd select a yarn designed for baby projects for that reason. Most are acrylic, probably for their washability.
when we purchase the cotton yarn there is csp 2200 etc what is this?
It could just be a code for the color. Can you tell me exactly what brand of yarn it is?

They asked me a lot of specific questions like, "How would you teach reading?" and "How will you help your students prepare for standardized tests?" How am I supposed to know any of that? I haven't seen the textbooks the kids will be using, I haven't had the opportunity to attend the workshops teachers get to attend on strategies, and I haven't had to plan an actual lesson, ever! I could only answer questions like this in the vaguest of generalities. I felt like I wasn't being clear when I was answering just because I didn't know what to say. On top of that, I actually forgot the name of the school I interned at. Seriously. I did that. I am very pleased with these mitts. The pattern was...
