I am shopping online for cotton webbing to make straps for a tote bag. I am having a terrible time finding any online in a 1 1/2" length in colors (I'm looking for royal blue, but would settle for navy at this point!) Is cotton webbing something sewing stores like JoAnn Fabrics would carry and cut to length? (Their website doesn't say.) Any other store suggestions to find this item at?
Also, like I said, I'd really like to get a 1 1/2" length of webbing because 1" wide straps on a tote bag sounds like it would dig into my shoulder big time. But - how much does cotton webbing shink? Perhaps if I want to end up with a 1 1/2" wide strap, I ought to buy webbing in a 2" width?
Thanks to any who can help!
In my experience, cotton webbing is available in limited colors. I buy my 1" nylon webbing at Joann's and at a hardware store that only carries black in a lot of widths. I have only seen 1" and 1/2" at Joann's.
For years I have put 1" nylon carry straps on travel boxes I have made with a buckle so they could be like a long suitcase handle or a shoulder strap or a pull strap with wheels and my experience is that 1" is very comfortable unless extremely loaded. I would expect 1-1/2" or 2" to really get awkward and not gain much over placing the 1" in various spots on the shoulder. If you do want more padding, one of the more rigid sliding pads might be a better choice.
and a back slash style pocket give plenty of options for organization and storage. -Cotton webbing handles with leather snap grip and padded ...
I have a Birtish army P.L.C.E. bergen and there is a short length of cotton webbing half way down the sack on the rear.
Initially i thought it seems to be the right place for an Ice axe, but you'd need two axe's, and it seems a bit short for that use anyway.
and why is it cotton rather than Nylon webbing?
I can only imagine it's for:
a digging tool (other than the folded one)?
for a radio antennae?
No, not the grab handle.
the piece of webbing would not be strong enough(and it's not big enough).
Are you talking about the grab handle?
You can be picked up or dragged by it.
I just put a lot of plants but really didn't use anything to cycle the tank. I've been using flourish excel and nitrogen for the plants. I also used a product called "Cycle" to cycle my tank. Today I woke up and I realized there were clear cotton/web like stuff on my plants and ornaments. I can scrub to remove the stuff off my ornaments but the plants?
i just had this same problem the other day. make sure your tank is filtered mix up the cotton stuff so its in the water and wait an hour for your filter to take care of it. thats what i did with my tank and now my water is clearer than ever and nothing on my plants.
When I wear belt buckles it usually makes my skin rash, So I need some ideas, I saw a customs officer wearing this belt, it looked like cotton webbed and the buckle was plastic snap in like something found on a back pack. does anyone know what this type of belt is called and where I can order one
I think this is what you're talking about! Look for things that say "squeeze buckle" or "quick release".
Here are a few I found by doing a search.

i have nicer stubben reins and they are a tan color. The web was like a sand stone color and it now just looks gross and has hair, sweat, ect. on it. How can i clean the cotton with out ruining the leather.
Once i put my black web reins through the wash with this leather chap wash and they got clean. I am afraid it will discolor the leather on my lighter reins if i put them through the wash and they are higher quality than the black ones so i would be sad if i ruin them.
Thank you for your answers.
It takes time.
Get a bowl of water, some Dawn dish detergent and a small brush. Something larger than a toothbrush, but not a large horse brush size.
Section by section, dip the webbing into the bowl, add a drop of dawn to your brush, then start scrubbing. Dip the webbed section after you've loosened the dirt. Use a clean dry towel to blot up the dirty water.
Time consuming, but worth it in the long run.
