I'm designing a few throw pillows and on one of them I'd like to put some tulle on it as an accent. Problem is, I am used to using sturdy fabrics and I'm not sure how to sew tulle. I'm only using one layer so you can see the cotton behind it, its very simple. Am I better to hand sew or use a sewing machine? What sort of stitch should I use either way? Any recommendations to keep it from ripping/fraying, etc? Thanks!
You can use a machine, it will catch all the tulle. If you want you can use a short stitch length like 2. You can also baste first if you don't like to sew over needles. It's really not that different from other fabrics.
Good luck.

What is a good estimate of the cost of transporting the above materials to Australia?
Any ideas how to work this out?
What I do know about overseas shipping is that it all has to do with density. Cotton, because it's not dense, would probably be extremely expensive.
I used to work for a moving and storage company and we'd handle international shipping from time to time and density was the biggest issue when it came to cost.
Essentially, cotton is a waste of space, because it takes up alot of space and isn't dense.

What are factory workers conditions and pay in China, Africa and France when using silk, cotton and tulle to make a dress?
china and france are countries, africa is a continent.
working conditions vary from place to place and even by region, but i would guess that generally france has better conditions than china and most if not all african countries.
I would like to make a petticoat with moderate 'poof' using a cotton base. I would like to know what sort of mesh fabric I should use - tulle, netting, organdy, or anything else you would like to add? If you are able please tell me the difference between those fabrics as well!
Thank you <3
Tulle is just a type of netting, and organdy is the type of fabric they make squaredancing petticoats out of. Lolita petticoats are usually made with tulle, but you'll need to starch your petticoat fairly often if you use tulle.

Crinoline - tulle? hoop? cotton lining?
Summer in NY is hot and very humid. I already have a lavender crinoline made of tulle and polyester, but I'm worried I'll be too warm in it. I started thinking about a hoop crinoline (pic 3) which would give me some serious air flow under the skirt. However, I don't think I would be able to sit comfortably in it.
I was looking on a few discussion boards, and it looks like the tulle crinnies aren't too warm, especially if they're lined with cotton. The one I have is polyester outside, then layers of bunched tulle, then polyester lining. I'm thinking that maybe I can cut out the lining and sew in a more breathable, light-weight cotton one. Since it's totally underneath everything, it won't...
