My son who is 2 has a double ear infection.With the cold air here in indiana,can it hurt my child's ear? like do I need to covor his ears if we go outside.Is it a old wives tale about the cotton in the ears during the treatment of meds.

Having suffered many ear infections as a child, I recommend covering his ears to protect them from the cold. While it probably won't make the infection worse, cold air was always painful for me during an ear infection - something akin to drinking something really cold when you have a toothache. Your son would feel more comfortable without the cool air in his ears. Warmth also helps ease the discomfort so the covering will make him feel better.

As far as the cotton with the meds, I believe this is to prevent the meds from running out without treating their target. Children have a hard time keeping their head angled for the drops to get down inside so the cotton helps. Ask your son's doctor about it and decide what to do after you get his input.

gah, sorry this is my 2nd question for the day about Poe. The heart is represented as symbolism in the story and that "There came to my ears a low, dull, quick sound, such as a watch makes when enveloped in cotton" symbolises the heartbeat as a watch. But I don't understand why. Why is the heartbeat symbolised as a watch?

Remember the murderer killed the old man because he had the eye of a vulture, no other reason. Toward the end he hears the sound a watch makes if enveloped in cotton and tells the cops tear up the blanks but stop the beating of his hideous heart!! Do people who murder for bizzare reasons usually become tortured by guilt or do they more frequently just have no remorse whatsover?

I think that the killer's motivation was not remorse but fear of being caught. He thought about it continually and eventually his fear of repriasal became a solid thing.
About killers in general, there are people who have no conscience, therefore have no remorse.

I strolled away from home one day wishing I could be somewhere else. A land of make believe perhaps. My life wasn't bad. I just needed something different to happen for a change.
I saw this huge field of sunflowers ahead so I went straight towards them. They were like tall, skinny people with happy faces on them. I started smiling already and as I got closer I noticed they were swaying in the breeze beckoning me to enter their world so I did.
I walked all amongst these happy face creatures when I heard them whispering,"WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET."
" What do you mean?" I kept saying outloud, not really knowing if I was talking to them or myself when all of a sudden I came to a small opening and was BLINDED BY THE LIGHT. I couldn't see for a moment or two and when I could there stood this little doll like, three foot, half pixie, half munchkin. I couldn't describe him but he was cute as cute could be and needless to say I was a little startled.
"Ahh," I stammered, "Who or what are you?"
"What you see is what you get." He answered back.
The flowers, that's what they were saying!
"Do you have a name?" I asked.
"Sure" he smiled. "I'm COTTON EYED JOE. Come with me and I'll show you around. We have to stay out of this hot sunlight anyway. It's too much for us."
Captivated with this charming creature I took his hand and off we went to this beautiful little waterfall and just below was his tiny cottage where he lived. When we got there we sat down as my eyes kept looking around. It was truly magical. I turned towards him and said,"TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD. I want to know all about this place and your magical friends the sunflowers as well as those wee bebops I see dancing and playing around in the water."
We talked for hours and I became so captivated I never noticed how dark it was getting. All of a sudden COTTON EYED JOE just looked at me before asking,"WHO'S TAKING YOU HOME TONIGHT?"
"Home? I don't want to go home. I want to stay with you." I cried out.
I knew this wasn't making sense but I just didn't want to leave COTTON EYEDJOE or his friends.
"I HATE MYSELF FOR LOVING YOU." I belted out, "but I just can't help it."
The next thing I knew I was suddenly awake and realized my brother had found me and was shaking me to wake up.
That bright light of course had been the sun and I had fallen asleep. Oh but it was sooo nice and it had given me the change I wanted for awhile, not that my brother agreed with me.
