I'd like to buy some sleep sacks (wearable blankets) for my baby girl (due soon) and am wondering whether I should go with fleece or cotton. We live in a humid and warm climate, but sleep in an air conditioned room. If she wears a footed long sleeve stretchie, wouldn't a fleece sleep sack be too hot? On the other hand, wouldn't cotton be too cooling and not cozy enough? Ourselves, we sleep in T-shirts and with a comforter, but I am not sure what I should do about the baby.
We live in Palm Springs, California so its pretty hot here all the time, but with my husband being an HVAC installer our house is always NICE and air conditioned :P
I tried the fleece but I found my bub got a little too warm and the cotton kept him perfect even in the A/C. I think it just has better breathability so it keeps him perfect temperature. Maybe in december when it gets into the high 50s at night the fleece might do ok, but as for now, I find its just a little too warm.

I'm looking to buy an infant sleep bag/sack that is made of high thread count cotton in a cute print. Everything seems to be out of stretchy fabric...I want it made out of the same fabric my bed sheets are made of. Does anyone know where I can buy this? I don't feel like making one myself.

I'm thinking of either making/buying a set of fleece hiding/sleeping items to put in our Chinchillas' cage. The set would possibly include:
(all items lined w/ fleece and exterior is cotton)
sleep sack
round bed
hammock
tunnels
hanging cube
and more!
Would they destroy these, or completely ignore them? Would they sleep and play in them and enjoy them?
I don't want to waste the money and effort on making these sleeping items if they aren't going to use them, or will chew them to bits quickly.
Thanks!
It's going to vary per chinchilla. Some of my chins enjoy their fleece hammocks and do not destroy them. Others see them as an additional chew toy and demolish them. I would start out with the hammocks and see what your chinchilla thinks of that before investing in anymore fleece.
Good luck!

I have a three week old baby and I am really confused about putting him to bed at night. I know that he is not supposed to have anything in the bassinet with him, but he likes to be swaddled. While in the hospital, I asked the nurses why he was allowed to sleep with blankets (he was always wrapped in receiving/swaddling blankets) while all of the handouts they gave us said to put him in a sleep sack with no blankets. They said that they used cotton receiving blankets and if they were to cover his face, they were breathable. I have held his receiving blankets over my face and since they are cotton, they are easy to breathe through as well. I'm wondering if the blankets they are talking about avoiding are thicker/"non-breathable" blankets? I have looked at sleep sacks, but the smallest one I can find is for a minimum of a 10 lb. baby.
Also, I know that he needs to sleep on his back, but since he was born, he has been turning up onto his side to sleep. I know it sounds unbelievable. I thought about buying a sleep positioner to keep him on his back, but he tends to spit up in his sleep. I'm afraid if he is on his back, he will choke on his spit up. Is this possible since it is a liquid?
When I swaddle him, he does wiggle his arms out (no matter how tight it starts). He always has his hands up by his face and if he is awake, he will scream until he get them free.
A baby will turn it's head to spit up, it won't choke on it.
I use to swaddle my daughter, until she was able to kick out of it. Then I started using a sleep sack.
good luck!
I'm due in the middle of January and am not sure of the best way to sleep my baby. I've bought fleece sleepers, warm sleep sacks with long sleeves, plain body suits, and cotton and fleece swaddle sacks. Any suggestions of which combinations to use. Winters get down to 20 degrees on average in January here. And probably as low as 68 degrees in the house at night.
I think you probably have to wait and see what the baby seems most comfortable in. Just keep in mind that SIDS research shows that over-dressing or over-heating a baby at night can be a risk factor. I've heard that if you touch the baby's cheeks and they are still cool (not cold), then you are doing okay. Actually, I've heard that 68 degrees is the ideal temp for a baby's room. My daughter was born in June, but due to the A/C being on all the time, I worried about her being cold too. She liked the swaddle sacks, so I put her in light cotton pjs and then swaddled her at first. Now she is three months old and sleeps in cotton pjs and a slightly thicker Halo sleep sack as she no longer seems to like swaddling. It sounds like you have a good variety of options, I'd just use trial and error. Good Luck!

The Picky Baby: My Review of Halo Organic Sleepsack Cotton ...
Cons: Awkward cheap zipper, No sleeves, No shoulder snaps, Flimsy Material, Not very warm, Hard to put on take off
Describe Yourself: First Time Parent, Medical Professional
I gave this product 2 stars because it does the job-- it is a sleep sack, and it works. But, other than that, I don't love it. I just think there are a lot better products out there. My baby has a few sleep sacks-- one by Halo, others by Carter's, Wendy Bellissimo, Lullabag, etc. This one is the worst. I guess a lot of people like that it zips up from the bottom, but I don't. First, you have to completely unzip the bag to get it over the baby's head. Then, when closing it, I find it problematic that the zipper is not a high quality zipper, so I end up struggling up by my baby's face, trying to line up the pieces and get the zipper together as she fusses in the middle of the night. Others, like Wendy Bellissimo and Carter's, have better zippers that just zip up from the bottom and the bottom part of the zipper never has to come apart. Second, other bags have better features. Most of them are warmer and heavier, either fleece or down or some other heavier material, so I don't feel guilty looking over at baby as she lays there with nothing but a thin piece of fleece on her as we sleep with our cozy down comforter (year round-- in summer we use A/C). Some other bags (Wendy Bellissimo, Grobags) have shoulder snaps -- GREAT for putting the sleepsack on and taking it off. And some, like Carter's, have sleeves-- so warm for east coast winters. This sleepsack is the one we use when all of the others are in the wash or at grandma's, or whatever.
