For Civil War work dresses, how many cotton petticoats should you use to achieve the desired fullness if you don't use a hoop skirt or a corded petticoat?

You will have to put on 80 lbs of cotton to get you there. So damn hot you will sweat your balls off. Hence hoops.

You can make a crinoline out of tulle - and line it with a cotton slip. You make it one layer thick and put multiple layers of ruffle on it from the low hips down.

im on my schools drill team and we wear petticoats under our uniforms. Theyre a sort of cotton/poly blend and i need to know what to do to keep it poofy for a long time. i dont know wether to turn it inside out and shove it in a closet or to hang it from a hanger or what....

I always dipped mine in Sta-flo, or some such liquid starch after laundering, When dried, I hung it inside out.
