Cotton Pea Coat

I need a decent winter pea coat for NY. I walk about 2 hrs everyday in the cold. I'm a little confused with all the different materials of coats. Which is the best at insulation: cotton, wool, or thinsulate? I remember seeing a cotton coat with a thinsulate lining, which seems good.

Wool coats are durable and warm! Go for those.

Of course, I would wear it with the collar down, yet still I'm undecided...

It's a good-looking coat; however, if I were going to get a pea coat, I'd go for one that's all wool. Cotton is going to show wear REALLY fast, especially if it's a dark color.

it is 60% polyester and 40% cotton. idont want it to shrink too much but just a little teeny bit. do you think it will ruin it if i wash it?

I think if you did it would never look the same, although original p-coats were supplied to navy. If its not too dirty, mix a little laundry detergent in hot water, dip a towel in it, then ring out excess. Lay out coat on another towel on the bed and wipe it down real good. Put it on a hanger and put it outside to dry.
