I was cooking dinner and I spilled a margarine sauce on my dark brown cotton/lycra top. I pretreated it and washed and dried it immediately, but it still has a stain that looks like a wet spot. Is there any solution for something that's already been washed and dried?
I'm trying the Family Dollar "Magic Power" degreaser tonight. I'll let you all know how it goes. Thanks to everyone for the tips!
Nope! The degreaser didn't work. I'll try the dishwashing soap, and if that doesn't do the trick, I'll take it to the drycleaners.
Thanks again for all the tips.
Well, the dish soap faded it, but it's still there. I'm taking it to the dry cleaners! Next time this happens, I'll try Goop and OxyClean. I just don't want to subject that poor blouse to anymore chemicals!
Thanks!
well
give to any good drycleander & ask him to clear it with spotting machine if it doesn't go by normal dry cleaning. if spotting machine cant remove it then nothing can.
make sure the dry cleaner is good enough to have a spotting machine.
dont try above suggested chemicals. they can spoil the color of fabric.

I have recently made a dress out of some nice cotton material with lycra in it, it's pretty much done but I just need to hem it. I'm not sure of the best way to do this, I've tried doing a blind hem on it but where it gets folded it goes a bit stiff and loses it's 'flowing-ness' if you see what I mean?!? anyone have any ideas??
Try hem tape. Iron it onto the bottom edge of the fabric, turn hem under once, iron again and stitch it around (for insurance).
Other than that zigzag the edge and turn it under once. Or serge the edge and turn it under.

I am researching smart materials for use in my textiles GCSE and wondered if cotton lycra was a smart material, as this would be a suitable material for my research if it is (:

ok you know those jeans you buy that fit great in the store, then you wash them and they're just a little more snug. the jeans that are the cotton/lycra mix, how do we keep them the same as the day of purchase?
ok i think i meant cotton/spandex, lol
Just don't dry them. Hang them up to dry. You can always stretch the waist and pull the legs to get a little extra length or room in the waistband in the case that it did shrink a little. But cotton/lycra or cotton/spandex shouldnt really shrink much...they always stretch out so bad for me that I have to put mine in the dryer to make them fit.
I ruined a white shirt by spilling iced tea down the front. I Tide-sticked it, pre-treated it before I washed, but the tea didn't come out. The shirt has to be washed in cold water or it will shrink - can I dye it? If I can't use Rit dye, what do I use?
I don't know about Rit - I've always heard bad things but never tried it.
What I do know is that Spray-n-Wash Stain Stick takes everything out of my kids' clothes, including tea spills (we drink a lot of tea!). The thing with the stick stain removers is that they need to sit on the stain for at least 24 hours before laundering, although mine sit all week because I only do laundry on the weekend. The laundry always comes out great, my dirty kids don't have any stained clothing.
Oh, and I do all my laundry in cold water, always.

Converted Maternity Pants Tutorial
Here I took an $8 pair of clearance trousers and converted them into maternity pants. I've done this in the past with jeans as well... not an extremely difficult alteration but most definitely a PERMANENT one. Keep that in mind before deciding to convert your $200 designer jeans into maternity. There's no going back... they will be maternity FOREVER. Below is my tutorial for converting regular pants into maternity with a demi panel. A demi panel is the stretch panel that sits low or under your belly. Why do I like demi panel? Because for me it's the most comfortable and hip option *Note: If you do not have a serger, don't worry....
