I am ordering a custom duvet cover and it gives you the choice between cotton and linen/cotton blend. Is one softer is one more heavy?
A linen/cotton blend is basically a mix of natural and synthetic fibers. This usually means "cheaper"...but not necessarily, depending on the quality of the linen. Based on yr given info., it's impossible to say which is lighter or softer as 100% cotton could be a 450gr weight while the blend is 300gr. The weight of the fabric is always indicated on the care label or packaging or on-line description. I'm sorry this is all so vague, but due to the multiple variables in woven textiles one would need more info. Your best bet would be to visit a retailer who sells duvets and actually "touch/feel them" and compare weights. Then if you plan to buy on-line you'll have some first hand reference to base your purchase on.

It's mixed with linen and cotton, I washed it with black socks and the black little dirty things seem to "grow into" the white fabrics, what should I do in this case?
Save my pants. Thank you for your help.

I just received my duvet cover in the mail, and the fabric is linen-cotton. It's a little too stiff for my taste, and I want to make it softer. Are there any at home remedies out there that will do the trick? Fabric softener, vinegar, washing it a few times? Any kind of help will work. If there isn't a way to make it softer, I can simply return it. Thanks!
"Many use and recommend washing rather than dry cleaning for linen garments, bed and table linens. (However; dry cleaning is recommended for cleaning linen draperies, due to potential for shrinkage in long pieces.) Washing is recommended because the more linen is washed, the softer, more absorbent and more luminous it becomes. One can use either hand or machine washing, but observe the following points:
* Be gentle when laundering linen: use a gentle wash cycle or handwash and use just a little gentle soap. We like Ivory Snow (powder), but some people swear by Woolite, some people like Orvus Quilt Soap (available at some Quilt stores as well as many Saddle and Tack shops!) and some even use their favorite shampoo. Whatever you use, follow the package directions. Place delicate, embroidered or fringed linens in a lingerie bag before putting them into a washing machine.
* Use cool to warm, not hot, water. Wash colored linens in cool water. Soft water is important: Hard water forms a soap scum that make linen stiff and dull.
* Launder stains when fresh. If allowed to set, stains may be permanent.
* Use oxygen bleaches (hydrogen peroxide) for white linen. Experiment to see how much is needed. Chlorine bleaches can cause yellowing.
* Try a couple of tablespoons of cream rinse for your hair in the final rinse cycle. Linen is cellulose fiber, and many swear this makes their linen more lustrous.
* If hand washing, rinse very thoroughly. Removal of all soap will help prevent large brown spots on linen, which are caused by oxidation of cellulose by residual soap."
As far as the dryer..I would avoid it if possible- it could shrink the fabric. It's best to hang out on a line in your yard, or if that's not an option. hang it up over the shower rod/door.
I have some black linen and cotton items that have faded after repeated washings. Can I re-dye them black using RIT or other dye in my washer without removing the existing black dye? And how do I keep the re-dyed black clothes from bleeding onto other close when washing in the future?
You can redye them with RIT. They will bleed a little when you wash them and your best bet is to always wash dark clothes seperately in cold water & hang them to dry indoors.
There are better dyes out there than Rit you can sometimes get them at fabric stores but they are a lot more expensive.
done the washing up liquid and butter anyone any ideas?
vanish will work

Yoga and its practice is a part of Indian spiritual heritage. Yoga refers to the union of mind, body and the soul. With the practice of yoga, the body and the mind can be relaxed and in the process, the nervous system of the individual is re-vitalized. In addition, yoga practice and meditation develops greater discipline and more self control. The mind and the spirit is benefited with increased self determination, which flows into other aspects of life. Meditation helps in increasing the concentration while with yoga asanas, the muscles of the body becomes flexible. Together, with the practice of meditation and yoga, an individual paves himself the way to attain a stage of eternal bliss. With breathing practices (Pranayama), dhyana (meditation) and different yoga postures (asanas), one can free himself from the grasp of consciousness and realize the state of liberation or ‘Moksha’.
