Cotton Lace Trim

Hey everyone, I'm looking to use some black lace for trimming some headpieces, dresses, and skirts.

I found that I could only buy NYLON black lace, however what I would rather use is soft cotton lace. But I'm worried that the black dye I have will in fact turn the lace grey.

I bought one tin of black dylon cold water dye and two cold fix sachets. I weighed the lace and it is only about 150grams. The dye instructions state that it will dye up to 250g of fabric.

Should I worry that the lace will go grey? I read somewhere that eyelet lace will not dye completely as the embroidery threads are polyester, not cotton like the lace.

i've heard the same. i say don't risk it. if you have a choice of buying already black lace, i would do that. you can try with the other lace, but it would be easier to just buy lace that is already the color you want

My daughter is 1. She got a cute outfit as a gift. It's a lavendar dress and cotton lavendar leggings, with lace trim at the ankle. But what does she wear on her feet then? Socks or no socks? She doesn't walk yet so she usually wears slippers or bare feet...

If she isn't walking yet, let her go how she usually does! If you want to dress her up, you can get very very cute baby dress shoes. I've seen really pretty flats/Mary Janes for infants at Brown's that would probably match.

it also has cotton panties with lace trim on the rear it comes in pink shear checked pattern with lace trim on straps that go over the shoulders then from the buttocks to tie @ the front

The shirt is probably mexican from the 1970s. It appears to be a synthetic (nylon? polyester?) that has yellowed, and is trimmed with yellowed nylon lace.

I'd like to whiten this shirt without bleaching the bright (cotton?) embroidery on it.

Is this possible? If so, how do I do it?

Soak it in Biz Activated Non-Chlorine Bleach overnight, launder it in cold water with your normal detergent and add a couple of drops of Mrs. Stewart's bluing for extra whiteness. Neither of these products will damage the fibers no matter the content. The non-chlorine bleach will take the yellow out of the fiber and the bluing will make the white eye poping.
