Are fabric covered albums a thing of the past?
Madeline Handmade Doll

I used to make fabric covered photo albums for family and friends. Weddings, Babies, etc. and have not made one for a while because I wasn't sure if it would be received well since scrapbooking has boomed!
For those who may not know; A fabric covered album consists of cotton/poly batting. Different styles of fabric, beads, lace, cording and mini flowers can be used to decorate. They are usually tied shut with ribbon.
Another reason for this question is that I would like to be able to sell my albums for profit (either online or craft fairs) and would need to charge anywhere between $30.00-$60.00 and feel that people would not appreciate the time and effort it took to make the album and not be interested...

I think it will ALL depend on the fabrics you choose. In past years, many fabric albums were made with old floral fabric and although that might be fine for older women, they weren't very exciting.
If you were to make album covers in Disney fabric, kids tv characters prints, leopard, fur/faux, those could be in high demand. You could test the waters by making a couple to sell on ebay and yahoo auctions.

What kind of fabric and color is suitable to cover a lampshade?
Madeline Handmade Doll

I have some blank lampshade covers (wire frames and plastic). I tried to cover with some fabric to match curtains and wallpaper but I found the lighting too dark. Need it to be bright. What is suitable fabric that could be white and bright, but easy to clean and won't age easily over the years. Is it linen or muslin? What about plain cotton or lace?

It depends On the Mood You're trying to create. General Lighting...You can use just about anything.Use your Imagination. If It's task lighting,go with a light color as you will need more light. For Task lighting I would use an Ivory color or even white fabric or clear or colored beads, get creative. I would use bleached muslin.

Red fabric bled into white part of shirt?
Madeline Handmade Doll

I have a child's red cotton long sleeve shirt with white cotton/lace cami underlay. The red from another red shirt bled into the white camisoleunderneath. What's the best way to get the white camisole white again (now pink) without damaging the rest of the primarily red shirt?

Try spraying oxy-clean on the stained spots then washing it in cold water. I have a baby and I use LOTS of oxy-clean. I swear by it.

Does dying lace black actually work?
Cream Lace Clutch

Hey everyone, I'm looking to use some black lace for trimming some headpieces, dresses, and skirts.

I found that I could only buy NYLON black lace, however what I would rather use is soft cotton lace. But I'm worried that the black dye I have will in fact turn the lace grey.

I have a selection of white eyelet lace like in this pic
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y94/ate lier/eyelet.jpg

As well as beading lace like in this pic
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y94/ate lier/beading.jpg

And what appears to be cluny like in this pic
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y94/ate lier/cluny.jpg

I bought one tin of black dylon cold water dye and two cold fix sachets. I weighed the lace and it is only about 150grams. The dye instructions state that it will dye up to 250g of fabric.

Should I worry that the lace will go grey? I read somewhere that eyelet lace will not dye completely as the embroidery threads are polyester, not cotton like the lace.

Thanks for your help!

i've heard the same. i say don't risk it. if you have a choice of buying already black lace, i would do that. you can try with the other lace, but it would be easier to just buy lace that is already the color you want

Fashion question: What would you wear with a creamy white lace skirt?
Handwoven lace fabric for DIY projects

It's this sort of material:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Stunning-french-c otton-lace-Rose_W0QQitemZ310167661638QQc mdZViewItemQQptZAU_Fabric?hash=item48376 eec46&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

But a creamy colour,
ir'a high waisted, and goes to half way down the thigh.
It doesn't stick out or anything either.
I'm just not really sure what kind of top I can wear it with?
I was thinking a blouse with a bow but it can't be a white one and I don't really know where to look for one..
Thanks.
:)

I would say something a shade of purple or blue. a blouse would be nice, but a bow...? maybe. if the blouse has small buttons. maybe pearly buttons? i dont think stripes would look good though.

  • 1884 Knitted Lace Sample Book: 37. Vine Tidy

"Vine Tidy" is in a class by itself among the patterns of the sample book. Not only is it one of a mere handful of stockingnet designs, but it is the sole example of an all-over lace pattern. Rather than an edging or insertion intended as a component in a larger work, it produces a fabric that can be adapted for a wide variety of knitting projects where lace is desired. The ropy vine motifs alternate with trios of zigzagging lines to form a trellis effect. The pattern has a 12-row repeat and is worked on a multiple of 19 stitches for circular knitting, 19 + 12 for flat fabric. Variations of the pattern can be found in many modern day texts.
