Im trying to make a basic t-shirt from scratch and would like to buy the material by the yard. I live in Houston, TX and I cant seem to find any location with a large enough stock. I have searched the net and cant find any sites that sell rolls of cotton knit (basic t-shirt fabric). Can anyone help me?
I don't live in your state, but here in CA, you could go to any fabric store and get it. Have you tried to major fabric stores? Try Walmart too, they also have a fabric dept.

It means that if you grab one end in each hand and stretch, it will stretch, but if you turn the fabric 90 degrees and grab and stretch, it won't. So if you made a shirt out of it, the shirt could stretch to side to side but not top to bottom.

what shall be done to avoid the fabric spirality in cotton fabrics. specially i have seen this problem in Washing/Overdyeing garments. The garment seam would come to front side from left side & right side seam moves on the back side of the garment by one inch or more.
what are the precautions that shall be taken while washing/overdyeing garment to avoid such cases. what shall be done to avoid spirality in normal single jersey fabric (circular knitted fabric).
if someone knows... plz advise
Ever see the knitted fabric in a roll shape. cut 2 mtr of fabric, slit it from one side & now freely open the fabric & lay it on table again. now take the edges of fabric & again fold it.. as it was in roll shape.
make sure dials of fabric are straight.
you will see some fabric spirality on the botton side (from where the fabric has not been slitted)
fabric doesn't stay with line of compactor.
if you have processed the fabric you must have seen it then
sew it
I want to sew a sweater, something to keep me warm at the office. I don't knit and I don't have a serger, just a simple singer sewing machine. I want something medium- to light-weight, semi-stretchy and a little bit fuzzy. Somewhere between fleece, cotton-knit and flannel. Something that would make a nice, warm, long, button-less cardigan, kinda like a blanket with sleeves. What kind of material am I looking for?
I'd probably point you at a 100 wt Malden Mills microfleece. It's a soft, easy to sew knit, wears like cast iron, and sews very easily. About the same weight as a cashmere sweater. Another possibility, one that looks more flannel-ish or suede-y is Malden's microchamois -- again, easy to sew and nearly indestructible.
Here's a comparison photo set between a Malden microchamois and a heavy cotton flannel:

For scale, the leaves on the microchamois are about 5/8" wide.
Here are some possibilities:

The worst thing about Malden's fleeces, imo, is they don't wear out. I'm still wearing a jacket from the mid 1980s, so choose a classic style!

yasmintoo! the art of surface textile design: Digital Fabric Printing
"I ordered several yards of fabric in different patterns from the most advertised of the small digital printers in the US. I took a quick glance at the fabric when it arrived and then put it up. The fabrics were organic cotton sateen and organic cotton jersey knit. I used the information from two online tutorials to actually get the hang of ordering fabric online. I strongly suggest ordering a color blanket/palette from any service you are thinking about using. Getting acquainted with the color palette of any dye takes time in my experience. I don't think working with digital printers will be any different. So if you need exact color matches, expect to have to go through several samples...
