I'm doing a math project where i have to make a product not literally make it but find out how much all the items needed costs. I'm trying to "make" about 20 silk leaves. So how much white silk cotton do I need to make 20 leaves? And I need equipment to make them, so what equipment could I use? PLEASE HELP!!!
Silk is a natural protein woven into textiles from larvae from insects mostly a certain type spider.
It is the strongest fiber made. Man has never been able to reproduce this amazing fabric.
Cotton come from a bush that is very stickery. It grows around 3-4 foot tall.
To make 20 silk leafs it would depend on the size of your leaf. I would think a half of a yard of sild would work for you.

I need help with my school assignment. What energy is used in harvesting cotton and making cotton products, and what is the energy's source? I thought maybe petrol used in the machines???
Of course, petrol or diesel is used to operate tractors when preparing the soil and planting the seed then cultivating. And to operate harvesting machines (strippers). Fuel is used to haul cotton from the fields to the gin. At the gin where cotton is processed or cleaned they use electricity and perhaps natural gas to power heaters, blowers, conveyors, and presses. From the gin the cotton goes to a plant that compactly presses it further. From there it is transported to a mill. These days U. S. cotton goes all over the world. It could move by train to a port. The train might burn diesel fuel. At the port it would be hoisted aboard transport ships that burn fuel oil for the trip overseas.
At the mill where fabric is made they would be using mainly electricity.
However, one large use of energy is for fertilizer. Cotton may not have to be fertilized but most will be. "Manufacturing 1 ton of anhydrous ammonia fertilizer requires 33,500 cubic feet of natural gas."
I grew up on a farm that grew cotton.

pictures if you can
They have great big machines like combine harvesters which rip all the balls of cotton off the little bushes it grows on. If you do a search (on images) for 'cotton plant' it should show you some pics and give you some links - there are organisations like the Cotton Growers' Federation (?) which have very informative websites.
a. Most of the cotton harvested went to supply the booming textile industry of Great Britain.
b. Large plantation owners were the only segment of the population to enjoy the full benefits of the cotton economy.
c. Southerners concentrated on cotton and failed to diversify or industrialize.
d. Cotton cultivation quickly depleted the land of nutrients, so planters moved their operations westward towards richer soils.
e. Cotton brought a uniform and steady prosperity to the lower South.
D
it could also be E, but you need to have a specific time frame. For a while it did bring uniform and steady prosperity to the lower south.

Tajikistan: Cotton harvest relies heavily on child labor
11/03/09
When it comes to the use of child labor to help bring in Tajikistan's cotton crop, the government's heart may be in the right place. Officials in Dushanbe have tried to prohibit the practice. But practical circumstances in the impoverished Central Asian nation mean that children are still found out in the fields during the harvest season.
The cotton sector in Tajikistan appears caught in a downward spiral, and the child-labor issue is but one of many problem areas. Antiquated infrastructure hampers innovation and productivity, while a drop in global demand has ensnared many farmers in a debt trap. Local officials also seem to be captives of Soviet-style thinking: in many rural areas, political bosses continue to use their clout and allocate precious state resources to prop up the cotton sector, despite decreasing yields and an escalating food crisis.
