Cotton Gauze Fabric

I am going to sew an outfit for my daughter. I have some white cotton gauze fabric and was wondering if I should wash it first before starting my project like you do with other cotton fabrics. Will this fabric shrink signifigantly? Also, does anyone know if the crinkles will come out and stay out after doing this. I would love it if they did but if they don't thats fine too.

The crinkles in the gauze cloth will stay put. Just wash in hot water with a bit of detergent and tumble dry as you will the finished garment. It will shrink enough that you don't want to make the garment then wash it.

I really hate puckered seams when I get dumb and don't wash first.

Rit dye always instructs you to dye in the hottest water possible. I want to dye some white gauze fabric black, but I need to do it in cool water because I cannot risk shrinking it. I know dying polyester with black turns out grey, but I would assume gauze (being cotton) would have the desired effect. Please help me!

Black is a very difficult color to dye, even in hot water with lots of excess dye.

Why not just either deal with the shrinkage or buy black gauze? Or use a thin bodied fabric paint like Jacquard Air Brush Ink?

I am interested in beautiful, preferably natural, fabrics such as linen and cotton in unusual types of fabric (gauze, fleece, etc). Not your average run-of-the-mill Spotlight/Lincraft printed cottons/corduroy/polar fleece/etc.

So many gorgeous online shops overseas (Japan, US) but the shipping's a killer.

From over here in the UK I've ordered beautiful fabrics including Aboriginal designs from Barossa Quilts. (www.barossaquilt.com.au) I made a quilt with bits of fabric from every continent, to represent the journey round the world my friend took 40 years ago from her home in Melbourne to London (where she still lives). The top of the quilt is in cool 'north' colours, and the bottom in hot 'south' colours.
