Cotton Duck

i am a person who loves to sew, and would actually love to find someone who sell the colors kelly green, gold and orange cotton duck cloth material. Help, please!!

Check out the canvas awning people. Some times they sell the material and it is a good price. I use to get my painting canvas that way.

Also dye it yourself...or use latex paint and then let it dry and then wash the cotton duck....done that a few times too.

I am currently making an 18th century shirt for re-enacting. Having done only one previous my sewing skills are still lacking. I decided to make the shirt body out of the width ( 60" )
of a bolt of cotton duck fabric I had here. I then was told I needed to make it out of the length of the fabric. Will this be a big problem since the fabric is so evenly woven???
Or will I need to go buy another peice of fabric ???

Hi, I make renn, civil war, victorian outfits full time. I don't undertand your question. The width is 60 inches, the length is the length of the bolt - could be up to 50 yeards! So you don't want to make it out of the length of the fabric.

Get a measuring tape, measure from your shoulder to where you want the shirt to end. Make sure you stand nice and tall - get some help from a friend.

Add a half inch for the shoulder seam, and a half inch to an inch for the hem. This should be the length.

I don't see where the weave of the fabric has anything to do with it.

... And does it really matter if I paint with acrylics, and not oils? (It's a question I've wondered for years.....!!)
(Thanks for the answers so far) I should also add that I'm wondering about the durability of the fabric used... I hear people talking about longevity of the fabric. I'm hoping that acrylics are less likely to eat into the fabric over time, as oils do, if that's the case.

Canvas is a generic term for a heavy fabric.
Early canvas was made of linen, a sturdy brownish fabric of considerable strength. Linen is particularly suitable for the use of oil paint. In the early 20th century, cotton canvas, often referred to as "cotton duck", came into use. Linen is composed of higher quality material, and remains popular with many professional artists, especially those who work with oil paint. Cotton duck, which stretches more fully and has an even, mechanical weave, offers a more economical alternative. The advent of acrylic paint has greatly increased the popularity and use of cotton duck canvas. Linen and cotton derive from two entirely different plants, the flax plant and the cotton plant.
In the United Kingdom, "calico" refers to fabric made from unbleached, and often not fully processed, cotton, which may for example contain unseparated husk parts. The fabric is less coarse and thick than canvas or denim, but because of its unfinished and undyed state, it is still very cheap. As it is an inexpensive and readily available fabric, calico is often used by tailors in the construction of toile — mockups of a garment for the purpose of testing a pattern.
In the US the word calico is used quite differently. In American English, calico is a word for inexpensive printed cotton fabrics that have a colorful small, all-over pattern, which is often floral.
The fabric that is called calico in the UK is called muslin in the USA.

Oils and acrylics behave in very different ways and look different. To use either is a matter of personal choice, neither is "better".

most likely you've got some local fabric store...i live in a little town but even it has a fabric store - you're not looking for an unusual material so I'd check locally as it will be heavy and paying shipping might be needless.

Field's Fabrics & Joann Fabrics are two here that come to mind quickly
