most likely you've got some local fabric store...i live in a little town but even it has a fabric store - you're not looking for an unusual material so I'd check locally as it will be heavy and paying shipping might be needless.
Field's Fabrics & Joann Fabrics are two here that come to mind quickly

I am looking for an outdoor coat for my father for Christmas, and I keep coming across cotton duck shell. I have no idea what this is. I just need to know if it's a durable fabric and good for winter. Thanks for your help!
“Duck” is a double basket weave shown here (click on “enlarge image” to get a close-up look):

Most Duck fabric I have seen is cotton. From what I can tell in my internet search, the shell of the jacket is the outside and most are lined with some sort of blanket fabric. The cotton duck fabric is quite durable and breathes well. It really depends on what type of weather you are buying for. I wore a similar fabric in a cold, dry climate and it worked well for me. I would think that this type of jacket would be available with different types of linings for different types of cold weather depending on your needs. Happy shopping!

Whether it would be iron on fusible safe or sew on patches... Don't forget to mention paint type also.
If so, How shall it get washed so the paint doesnt run or the cloth doesnt shrink?
too many questions and too vague to answer all at once; but, in a nutshell: yes.
check out goldenpaints.com for the technical info, they have good info, quality products: screen printing, washer-safe, heat-setting, etc....
I am currently making an 18th century shirt for re-enacting. Having done only one previous my sewing skills are still lacking. I decided to make the shirt body out of the width ( 60" )
of a bolt of cotton duck fabric I had here. I then was told I needed to make it out of the length of the fabric. Will this be a big problem since the fabric is so evenly woven???
Or will I need to go buy another peice of fabric ???
Hi, I make renn, civil war, victorian outfits full time. I don't undertand your question. The width is 60 inches, the length is the length of the bolt - could be up to 50 yeards! So you don't want to make it out of the length of the fabric.
Get a measuring tape, measure from your shoulder to where you want the shirt to end. Make sure you stand nice and tall - get some help from a friend.
Add a half inch for the shoulder seam, and a half inch to an inch for the hem. This should be the length.
I don't see where the weave of the fabric has anything to do with it.
I hope this helps.

One of the questions we get most often is this: “what fabric is the best for my sofa”? We know they’re talking about durability, which I’ll address below, but it’s also important to think about “best” in terms of livability and health concerns. I mean, you can buy a fabric that has a 1,000,000 WZ test result – it should survive anything you can throw at it – but do you want to live with it?
I have 3 (now grown) sons, and we’ve had assorted (big) dogs, so I totally know why people ask this question. But to answer in terms of durability is a complicated question to answer because durability depends on several things: construction of the yarns and the construction of the weave (and tests which include seam slippage, pilling, tensile strength and usage) are almost as important as the fiber chosen. In addition, finishes, furniture design, maintenance, cleaning and usage are variables that affect the life of your fabric.
